Takes its cues from Italian Neorealism and some Bourekas films where the rich act not as a straight-up antagonist, but as a static foil for the everyman protagonist to evolve against. I am a sucker for those. Some other cliches appear as well, yet "Karaoke"'s specific premise is quite original, an astute picture of 2022 Israeli society, and wholly justified. At its core, it's a treatise on "authenticity" - a major tenet of Israeli culture. The cast is pitch-perfect, and I was moved to tears.
