Writer-director Miranda July is great at showing isolated, lonely people looking for meaning in the universe. Here that theme is profound: you get an adult child that's grown up surrounded by manipulation yearning for actual respect from their parents. The film also avoids the reassuring structure of caper films--although the opening act could've moved better. Still, Evan Rachel Wood is amazing--via a stilted performance in voice, action, and awkwardness. Recommended and a great soundtrack, too.

The film's quirks are well, but not perfectly, balanced by its emotional beats: Old Dolio's name reveal being a good example of genuine sentiment somehow sitting atop something ludicrous. It never got me deeply (perhaps because of the unneeded romance that ultimately produces more discomfort than liberation), but it's certainly interesting.

I thought quirky comedies had been outdated since 2010, unfortunately some people still feel the need to keep doing this. At many moments it is Vomit inducingly melodramatic. Most deducted points are for the silly lowered voice of 'Old Dolio'. Typical filmfestival award bait.

The unique and tense settings and plot points of the film (the skimming, the leaky office home, the past-due rent, and the urgency inherent in them all) provide an easily and immediately compelling base for the poignant, equally quirky, and well-acted character/family drama that emerges (see the moving parenting classes, dark bathroom journey, gift returns). The new relationship is sweet (see Melanie to the rescue) but its romance is a bit discomforting due to the maturity/power imbalance.

"It is metal it's life, don't touch it." -It's quiet I don't hear anyone. "It is quiet. Why is it quiet? It's darker" -It's dark before. "No, it's completely black. OMG. You don't wanna know. We are not in life anymore. It happened right away. Right after that first big noise. We died. That's what everyone always says. They can't believe it. You might never believe it but this is just how it's gonna be. Forever. Just us, and blackness. You can't believe it because you were married to life."

quirky SHOPLIFTERS is the pithy dismissal, but july's affectations are always designed to evoke the characters' inner life and that ain't quirk. a family creeps past a low wall in a line, parents ducking and daughter awkwardly limboing--agonisingly cute divorced from context, but here it communicates class hierarchy, the weight of financial pressure, the routines they're forced into, familial estrangement and old dolio's mental contortions. performances are all great too despite their diversity.

This is another Miranda July film about odd people with weird intimacy issues. Buddy, it's 2021, and you should know what you are getting from a Miranda July film, so if you get mad at that, it's on you. The four leads are so good in their roles.

Pretty straightforward, for something trying to be so weird. You'll either be too put off by the truly disgusting antagonists to enjoy this film, or you won't. The 'central' relationship of the film takes a backseat to the circumstances, and ultimately falls pretty flat if examined on its own.

Surprisingly the movie trailer is better than the movie itself. Following this ignorant low life family around was depressing and bleak. Much of it was not credible, interesting, or engaging. The humor is too weird to enjoy. This premise had so much potential, but it failed to deliver. It was slightly interesting from the 3rd act but also became almost too pretentious to tolerate. BTW: Naming your baby girl "Old Dolio"...my ass. Not worthwhile.

Kajillionaire is my first experience with Miranda July but it has launched her into a director to be followed in my puny mind. With great acting, excellent framing/camera work/directing and a clever script, it's one of the best movies of the year. With that said, due to how little regard it has for following set paths, it may turn off some. Those who stick around will be rewarded. Rodriguez and Wood were the stand outs, there were some really memorable and unique scenes.

Toes a difficult line between quirky and authentic, but generally gets it right. I could have done without Wood's put-upon accent/voice, but she otherwise puts on a really fun performance. And then Richard Jenkins is at his most Richard Jenkinsy, and I'm here for it.

Kajillionaire really showed that July getting out of her own way as an actor was the best thing possible for July the director. This movie has a really good sense of character and is acted wonderfully. Special shout out to Gina Rodriguez who did a great job as the conduit for the audience, both in terms of being relatable and buoying what would other be a much more depressing film. My only real complaint here is that July never gives a strong enough reason why the family acts the way they do.

This is a film that I can respect and even admire to an extent far more than I actually enjoyed it. It's unique and has a great sense of personality, but there's a lot that doesn't work for me on a script level, and I never connected with it emotionally in the way I was hoping to and that others seem to have. I appreciate that a film this bizarre can find funding and major talent. Not quite my cup of tea but I see how it could resonate strongly with the right viewer.

It has some heart and a few messy ideas about family and the economic state of the Western world, but it all gets muddled as it unfortunately gets worse as it goes on, coming to the easy conclusion that love is more important than money. In one way, it ends on a message of love, and yet in another way, it also ends on a mean-spirited note about poor people.

I wasn't initially sold but as it progressed into the last half hour this lyrical loneliness touched me. Everyone is at their A-game but Richard Jenkins is at his best here; playing against his austere and aged face and more vulnerable than Shape of Water

Ok, so besides Wood never quite pulling off the baritone voice, I loved this movie. Rodriguez is a delight, and the emotional story is extremely moving. I never watched the trailer, so I think that helps. Overall, the best romance I've seen in awhile.

a quirky, somewhat irritating, and fun little movie with the same darkly comedic tone of miranda july's me/you/everyone. there's a few good chuckles like EVR shaking that stranger's hand at the gas station and revealing her age after the bday gifts. I also appreciate EVR's entertaining portrayal of the absurdly inept protagonist.

Wannabe charming modern fairy tale about a mentally ill family of con artists. The movie's lack of logic is mirrored by the aimless non-melodies of the musical score, and though the actors do their best (especially Richard Jenkins), what starts off cute and charming becomes grim and implausible.

July has a penchant for creating oddball characters that are morally questionable yet somehow loveable (or at least sympathetic). Kajillionaire sees emotionally-withholding parents (Winger & Jenkins) lie, manipulate and bumble their way in an effort to become "Kajillionaires". Wood & Rodriguez play polar opposites, balancing each other's performance perfectly. The film is often bizarre, occasionally hilarious, and somewhat gripping, with well-laced theme of the need for emotional connection.

Aile filmi. Filmin sonunda, 525 Tl. Yalnızlığım. Yaşamak zorunda olduğum beraberliğimsin.

I hated Me You and Everyone We Know. just seeing miranda july's face makes me angry. but this one was extremely dark, and was one of the most powerful portrayals of abusive parenting I've seen. this is going to be the strangest role of evan rachel wood's career. coolest soundtrack I've heard in a while as well.

The first act was charming and unique. And then things morphed and devolved over time, going to strange and largely unearned places. It was clear that every character was mentally unstable, to one degree or another, and that drove things. I could only roll my eyes as the credits rolled.
