To be honest, Dolan knows how to stylize a movie and how to create intense atmospheres. However, almost all of his movies are shallow, have the simplicity of a melodrama, based on non-existent dramatic conflicts and they rely on childish and hot tempered characters' yelling at each other. Dolan formula: pop-retro music + music video aesthetics + a gay protagonist + side characters oscillating from delirium to compassion with style. Voila, manifique! And they give the Grand Prize to this shit!

The one really good thing is Cassel and especially his outspoken role (the only one remotely interesting and not infuriating). The rest is basically a static nothing. It starts from nowhere (pointless in medias res), ends up nowhere (pointless symbolism), answers none of the questions it poses, plays with your nerves with faux climaxes and is full of dialogues (make that monologues) with zero content. Plus, Cotillard attempts awkwardness via a stupid stutter that deserves a kick in the groin.

Did not meet my expectations of Dolan and this cast. Still a decent drama to watch.

Extremely subtle/implicit movie about family relations. I'm a bit disappointed by the mostly frantic editing.

By now, Dolan strikes me as an overzealous storyteller with a misguided understanding of what cinema should feel, look and sound like. Exploring similar thematic terrain, Dolan serves up another portrait of complicated family dynamics in loud, agitated and frankly very annoying fashion. And, good God, those music choices are eye-rollingly terrible.

Characterized by a claustrophobic and hostile atmosphere, it's some of the most controlled filmmaking Dolan has showcased so far. He also manages to always stick the landing with the ending. Far from perfect, but I don't see the hate either.

A thought-provoking platter, packed with family conflict and garnished with a stellar cast and setting. The script is really something, and numerous scenes fizz and sparkle as the trio of young talents get their teeth into each other and their parents. Vincent Cassel's father is a terrifying yet realistic portrayal of masculinity. I may forget the story but I will remember this for the way Dolan sets up the conflicts between characters, who paint a fascinating picture of a dysfunctional family.

It's only tumescent melodrama, music video sequences that would make Sofia Coppola proud, and overly saturated colour gels!... No, sorry, that's just Dolan's ~formalist symbolism~, don't you see? ...Mierde. What a waste of a wonderful cast. And to think, Vincent Cassel even goes so far as to have his "I am not an animal" moment! Amusing for all the wrong reasons.

How damaging can be misplaced love? How hard can it be to confront reality and be true to oneself? The title of the movie perfectly catches the meaning. It's simplicity, honesty and inevitability caught in "just" and the shattering consequences in "the End of the World".

this is a movie that depends enourmously on the acting, for it's also character movie, but good part of the acting is just not convincing (except for Nathalie Baye and Ulliel). The first moments of Louis in the house have some enourmously excessive acting, not convincing, not realistic at all - and this isn't the only moment. Cassel's character is so extreme that every appearance of his make things look unrealistic; and, of course, this is to blame also on the direction, who lead things this way

Definitely not the worst movie of the year, and definitely way lower than my expectations.

My first Dolan movie but I am sure it won't be last. I don't get the so much hate on this movie and what I believe is that it is highly underrated. Even though some dialogues are pretty lame and some scenes are very much thetratical, overally the story was strong enough to represent the lead character's problems and their reflections on his family.

Aimless film that does not talk about anything, because the director decided to tell us nothing. All you remember at the end of the day is famous French actors shouting at each other.

A few strokes of genius, and a great use of soundtrack as was to be expected, but overall, it feels like Mommy with all of the drama but none of the substance.

another good movie by the young Dolan. You can really feel the whole family history in all the quibbles.
