The acting and the investing story make this deeply moving. Jordan, Foxx, and Nelson are all fantastic and make the emotional scenes work. While the story is similar to films before and the prosecutor flipping feels unearned, the story being based on the truth makes up for it.

Everything is well done and filed away for Oscar season. It's a well-worn story (despite each case being its own affront of injustice) that had better be more exceptional if it's going to stand out. Jordan is solid as always, and the supporting cast is nice, so you could do a lot worse.

Dramatically falls flat. There was at least one in-prison conversation scene with Jordan and Fox that felt like a carbon copy of what came before. Maybe could have been trimmed. I have a feeling they stayed very close to the facts, which might explain the lack of big "Hollywood" moments. There are no twists in the plot really. Just innocent man fighting for his life. As usual, a documentary would be better. The book is among the most loved around, so I look forward to reading that.

Simple, solid and refreshingly old-fashioned courtroom drama is as tradition-bound in its own way as GREEN BOOK and is about as equally enjoyable, thanks to solid work from Jordan and Foxx, and smooth direction from Cretton - even if his screenplay feels a little padded at times while having trouble focusing the drama proper on either of his protagonists. Stand-out work from Morgan in support gives this light-weight drama an added dramatic boost just as it starts to lag.

Jordan and Foxx give solid performances. I appreciate this movie not being too dramatic. It would have been nice to see more systemic injustice permeating through the Alabama legal system but we've probably seen it done elsewhere. I'm not sure how much presented was based on facts so if things like being pulled over were true, they should have said so. Brie Larson fell into the background. Fav scene: Jordan being forced to a strip search before going into jail even though he's a lawyer.

It evidently doesn't bring anything new to the long history of average but convincible contemporary legal dramas, mostly because Cretton is just unable to elevate the uninspired script or create anything visually as engaging as the story told. (Another) classic case of movie more important or relevant than actually good, but that's ok.

Jordan a long with Foxx are the life that gives the film legs to stand on. They bring this true story to the screen with heavy emotions and a heart worth buying into. It's much better than I anticipated it to be thanks in large part to the ensemble of characters that interact with Jordans Bryan Stevenson. Well acted, well written you won't find a more emotional film than this. It does take time to get going at the start but once it dives into the heart of the story it really focused on justice.

While I would agree that it lacks the grit that you might expect or hope for from a story about race in Alabama (I expected a more front-facing conflict other than "systemic racism plus one bomb threat"), I was nonetheless drawn in pretty heavily by Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx. I also totally adored the chemistry between Foxx, O'Shea Jackson and Rob Morgan (who I didn't even realize WAS Rob Morgan). One can easily get bogged down in the legal jargon, but this thoroughly worked for me.

An important story in an unimportant film, where you're better off saving time and money by reading about this case on Wikipedia. Hammy acting from all involved (aside from an impressive Blake Nelson), despite how great these actors otherwise are. I wouldn't recommend this, unless you like your cinematic pity-parties.

It may fall into some of the normal traps of feel-good courtroom dramas, but what Just Mercy gets right is landing its emotional appeal. Jamie Foxx and Michael B. Jordan do great work, and Destin Daniel Cretton largely succeeds in being a steady director for a film that could have easily felt melodramatic and out of control.

It hits emotional beats pretty well and has good--but not amazing--performances by the people that you would expect to put in good performances. So in pretty much all ways it's a good legal drama, but it lacks that something to make it truly special.

sadly too long and it seems a bit lazy didnt film the prison scenes together and opted for the weird edit option. but it pulls itself together towards the end and the story itself is of course very impactful

This is a film with a compelling story & some good performances but it isn't entirely memorable overall, probably only because there are so many similar films. Its a real shame that such deeply inbedded racism clearly still exists/existed in the early 90s (when the film is mainly set). As with most biopics, I liked that it showed footage of the people the characters are based on, that it gave the viewer a sense of it being a true story, as I believe it is, or it's certainly based on one anyway.

A very solid courtroom thriller, it tells an interesting and harrowing story of real life people and case. The cast here is phenomenal, but it's dominated by Michal B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx and Rob Morgan. I think its biggest issue is the pacing, as it could have been shorter and some scenes feel like repeats. Rafe Spall's character is an annoyingly one-dimensional bully for the most part so that even if the story definitely has its 'villain' here, their role just feels very blatant.

Courtroom dramalarına bayılan biri olarak vasat bulduğum film. Bu türde pek çok başarılı yapımın arasında anca "ehh" olur. Uzun süresini dolduran bir senaryosu yok.

The story is as relevant as ever and it needs to be told. The great cast all deliver excellent performances to lift this. It draws on great emotion, and we know how frustrating the past is, but it is one of those films with a satisfying end. You may have seen similar films before, but the fact that more stories need to be told says it all.

The American court system sure is setup nicely to deliver the ups and downs of a plot such as this. There isn't much here that hasn't already been said, but the execution is near flawless. Really every aspect of this drama is pretty perfect. It just feels like something is missing to put it all the way over the top. Perhaps the lead character was too perfect. But the bottom line is the movie hooked me easily and never let go.

Refreshingly undramatic, well paced, a story with ( and about ) dignity and one of the best reminders to any white european, such as myself, who on occasions forgets just how deep and bitter the racial divide in America sank to. (not excusing it sinking to the same level elsewhere). All characters were fleshed out, and given life, and I especially enjoyed Larsen, Spall, Morgan and Blake Nelson who did well with minor but important roles. Thank God for the lack of "Hollywood moments". Good film

Sure, this isn't a remarkable work of artistry, but it is an important story that manages to hit the target on presenting the realities of systemic racism to a mainstream audience. It's hard not to be moved by Johnny D's plight and the love and support among these fearful but strong black neighbors. It's also hard not to be angry at the complacency of agents within a justice system that have no interest in self-evaluation and righting wrongs, because, you know, re-election is on the horizon.

Gets a little too cheesy with forced humor at some points which messes with the flow of all the other great parts of the movie like Jamie Fox's great acting and the poignant emotion through the film.

Decent, is what I would call it. Nothing in the movie is new or shocking, if you have watched enough movies over the years about racial discrimination in the US. Yet it does not stop you from enjoying a well-made movie with good acting.

It's very difficult not to like this movie since it is so very clearly on the side of everything that is right and good. It's about the righting of a truly egregious injustice in the face of a legal system that is cartoonishly corrupt in it's zeal to execute the most innocent man it can find. And I do like this film, although I really do wish it was a far less pedantic and audience pandering endeavor.
