The moral, as far as I can tell is, be yourself. But only if you're young, slender and good looking. If you're fat with acne, well, just give it up, move to the woods and die alone and afraid. Worst after-school special ever.

Extremely predictable, not particularly funny, and really just overly cruel and offensive towards fat people. But I guess it's an okay subject to try and make jokes out of, because lets get real here, the obese are not people, and they definitely don't have feelings (or any chance at ever being loved). This isn't something that would ever normally bother me, but this movie is so mean-spirited and just not funny at all. How on earth does Anna Faris keep landing film roles? She's awful.

Haha yep, Amy Smart wouldn't date some fat tub of lard. Didn't really need a 90 minute movie to tell me this.

Rewatch. This transported me back to 2005 when I'm crushing on Amy Smart (The Butterfly Effect, Road Trip, Varsity Blues, Rat Race, Starship Troopers) as the attainable girl next door. The premise is okay but Reynolds is frustratingly incompetent. Fun relationship with his brother. Anna Faris plays crazy hot well. Hilarious setups for gags like the Christmas decorations. Fav scene: paramedic let go of Reynolds while he's strapped to a board and he slides down a hill and falls on his face.

Alright, I will step up to bat for this film. It's a shame Anna Faris doesn't have a better comedy career. She steals the entire film. This film undercuts itself at the end when Reynolds doesn't really learn a lesson and ends up with the woman anyways, because she now finds him sexually attractive. However, there is something charming in this film that melts my ice cold heart.

Amy Smart is incredibly lovely and beautiful and brightens up anything she is in. Ryan Reynolds was also very entertaining but his role was mostly pretty pathetic. My favorite part was the relationship he had with his brother, I got quite a few laughs from that. Anna Faris was also quite comical despite being cast in the role of a crazy self absorbed talentless diva. The story was full of unconvincing moments but the tone and message was entertaining to the end.

I like the people involved (Reynolds, Smart, Faris) more than I like the project itself. It's basically a 90 minute long movie about how you need to just be yourself to get the girl of your dreams, as long as you are no longer fat. Great message for the children!

While it's a cute and somewhat touching film, it's hard to make Ryan Reynolds appear dorky and witless and still make it believable. Reynolds can't really play anyone other than his quirky self, and it just doesn't work that well here.

I was surprised that I hadn't seen this before, or perhaps I did and simply forgot. It's a step above a typical Hallmark Christmas movie and has a nice cast, some funny moments, but it runs out of steam long before the end credits. It also hasn't aged particularly well; it's unlikely that a new film would center so much humor around how someone used to be fat or the treat the Anna Faris' character the same way as it does. Still, it might be worth a watch for 90/00's nostalgia during Holidays.

Standard mid-aughts not-quite-raunch comedy has enough good ingredients on the periphery that it’s frustrating it doesn’t come together as a whole – Reynolds and Smart are fine in the leads, but there is some excellent work by a solid support cast that push the film towards a recommendation, especially Faris’ Britney-esque pop loon, who could sustain her own comedy film! Some good, funny lines sustained by Kumble’s effective comic direction; overall not bad, if not *quite* ready for primetime.

It's dopey, corny and stupid. If you are fat and nerdy and stuck in the friend zone, all you have to do, is to lose some weight and become rich and famous. I really want to hate it, but I don't. It's sweet and in the end it's a movie about being a love struck teen idiot. I know that feeling. And considering you are reading this review on an online movie site, I would say there is an above average chance that you too have at one time been stuck in the Friend Zone. Embrace your inner nerdy teen.

Right from the get-go this film had that fun vibe to it as well as the predictability factor. Still the film was carried well by Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart who shared a good best friend on screen chemistry. Every person has that one person they want to be with, and these films may be cliche but they are full of heart. This film is a good way to spend a boring afternoon, with most of the laughs coming from Anna Faris and over the top antics.

Top badass moment? It has to be the 'outing' of love rival Dusty Dinkelman by Chris Brander. The 'smoking gun' all love rivals look for. (I mean this in the catching him with another woman way, not the gay way.) No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.
