A few questions: Why does the movie start off by ripping off a classic Indiana Jones scene? What is the point of having a character reveal he is gay in essentially a kid's adventure movie, or more precisely, why is there a series of sexual innuendos associated with that gay character in a kid's movie? Is the market for gays and gay kids that big? wait... is this a kid's movie?

Thankfully, Disney knows they’re making a whole film off a ride based on bad puns. At least they weren’t in de-Nile. Yes, it borrows from Pirates, but I think that could Sparrow bit. It hardly matters water’s going on, it moves rapidly enough. Oh no!, here come some Germans, did nazi that coming! It must have been added Indy later script. Thankfully, The Rock’s charisma stays the same after several hits with a Blunt instrument. Must be muscle memory. The Back Side of Water!

For better (comical characters banter and wear silly period costumes) and worse (Colonialism Is Fun), this feels like a family adventure film from a "simpler" time - one that's anachronistically oversaturated with CGI. Disney's latest first gay character would have been better left as a kooky tagalong, as Disney was unwilling to let him and The Rock consummate their cheap toast and instead forced in a truly appalling "romance" between the headliners. Ultimately forgettable.

Blunt and apparent jungle fetishist Dwayne Johnson are really the only things that keep this very average piece of filmmaking afloat. The pair manage to elevate a lazy screenplay and anorexic plotting to something watchable. Plemons and Giamatti are good additions also, doing their best with very little, but much everything else is sub-par.

The overall vibe is near identical to The Mummy, with Johnson, Blunt and Whitehall respectively filling in for Fraser, Weisz and Hannah, plus similar sense of humor, ancient times flashbacks, immortal beings, solving riddles/mysteries, cartoon physics action scenes, etc. Gets the job done but I have to deduct a couple points for TONS of unconvincing and immersion-breaking CGI animals and for the leads’ angry-flirting dynamic gradually becoming a bit grating.

Incomprehensibly shot and edited. The camera cuts 3 or more times in the middle of a single sentence at some points. And forget about seeing anything that's happening in the action sequences. The film is shot almost exclusively in mediums and some close-ups, making it impossible to judge any sense of space or scale rendering most of this as weirdly claustrophobic. I know it's wrong to expect high-art from a film based on a theme-park attraction, but basic filmmaking competency would be nice!

Jungle Cruise really really wants to be a cross between Sommers' The Mummy and Verbinski's POTC, and it is, but it's a really poor one. Too much evidence of the production wanting to satisfy a Studio checklist of things to include rather than concentrating on the craft of making those elements actually work together. While this may be passable entertainment for very young kids, Jungle Cruise mostly shows what an absolute miracle POTC was coming from the same Studio and theme park ride origins.

Fun. More fun than I expected. Having watched it only to see Blunt and The Rock, I was a little surprised. They are perfect: The Rock is makes a ton of unfunny lines work to various degrees, and Blunt does the heavy lifting, not that it requires a lot of that in general. Still, they make it more engaging than it might otherwise have been since it's a pretty basic adventure flick. Nice version of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica at the beginning, smart enough to revisit it again later too.

Mostly a bland green-screened family-friendly adventure film with some over-the-top elements, like the ridiculous Jesse Plemons German villain. At least with the natives they had a good explanation for the theatrics. Emily Blunt and The Rock are good leads but her brother felt really unnecessary, except to fit the formula for comedic relief. I liked the African Queen first half and the dad jokes. The supernatural parts weren't for me. Fav scene: flowers blooming on the tree.

Since It's Disney, the production is fairly top notch as well as the acting. I was really only interested for Emily Blunt because I'm an absolute slut for her. I actually rode the actual Jungle Cruise ride a couple years ago and had a blast. Comparing this to say Pirates of the Caribbean, which is another ride turned movie, It's not even comparable. I think that the general audience will find plenty of fun to be had. I give 6 "Jungle Rocks' out of 10.

It does capture the spirit of the ride that inspired it. The Rock is always charismatic and he had fun with this role. Plemons felt out of place being hammy and it was overall just kind of messy with 3 different baddies.

It's just the fast food of movies. It passes the time and a few scenes were fairly cool, but it has no substance nor any charm that would stick with you for a second after the end titles roll in. Also hasn't the whole thing with "the guy who is a rogue and says he doesn't care for anyone but actually has a big heart + the woman who wants to do good + the nerdy brother" been done enough already?

Half hour too long and never really got into it. Does pay a bit of homage to the ride at the beginning, which is nice, but then just becomes a lackluster adventure. Too violent for kids. Too boring for adults. Doesn't really hit any mark. Maybe tweens and young teens would like it? Also, Disney, it's great you want to be inclusive, but you don't have to bring sexuality into every thing you make. It didn't fit into the storyline at all.

Jungle Cruise is part 1999's The Mummy, part PotC, and part Disney's calculated effort to maximise profits with family-friendly violence & modern social sensibilities. Blunt & Giamatti ham it up; Johnson's charm is literally unbelievably; & Whitehall is familiar comedic-relief. Nevertheless, despite the occasionally mediocre script & direction, the film is a great balance of camp, action-adventure & fun. The expositional flashback set to JNH's orchestration of Nothing Else Matters is inspired.

Horrible CGI apocalypse! Also a bad attempt to establish a new type of "Pirates of the Caribbean" because the old one has broken away. Normally I absolutely can't stand Dwayne Johnson no matter what he does and I'm actually an Emily Blunt fan. But here her character is just annoying and "The Rock" actually fits in quite well and also delivers an okay performance. If only there wasn't the really annoying constant bombardment of something that someone would probably call "funny".

Always a little biased here, but this film was fun. Dumb, but fun. It feels exactly like Pirates of the Caribbean (and the plot is not all that dissimilar) and shares a similar vibe throughout. Action film. Popcorn filmi. A poor imitation of Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mummy and Indiana Jones. Those franchises get a 21 century makeover in some aspects, but in others this film felt archaic. E.g. the story, the cool guy that doesn't care about anybody cliché, the caricature villains and the stereotypical comic relief sidekick. Also has a terrible romance, making the ending beyond ridiculous. Despite all this awfulness it was surprisingly watchable, though it seems too gruesome for kids and too boring for adults.

This is a lot more chemistry than I expected to see between Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. A surprising pairing that works. We'll just ignore the giant Samoan man with the Spanish(?) father, it's not important. Obviously has the tone and atmosphere of its PotC predecessors, and it may not ever reach that franchise's highs, but for what it is and as the beneficiary of virtually NO expectations, I enjoyed myself and found there to be more plot-wise than I thought there would be. Worth seeing!

I found this entertaining. It's not Pirates of the Caribbean, even though much of it's plot is ripped directly from it. Jungle Cruise is fine for what it is. A simple kids adventure movie with fun action to it and some decent moments from The Rock and Emily Blunt. It's not trying to be high art or anything special, but gets the job done for kids and families. The special effects look good and there's a good amount of jokes that work. I'd probably pick this over almost all of the Live-Action Disney films honestly. It's an alright watch.
