Jumping

1984
Animation
Short Film

Animated from the point of view of a small child. The viewer is jumping down a suburban street, and progressive jumps are higher and higher. The viewer/child lands in various city settings, a jungle, a battle field, the depths of Hell, and finally back to the street where the adventure began. The film is notable for the use of perspective in pre-CGI animation. (imdb)

I congratulate it because the perspective was so well made I really felt like I was jumping, it made me dizzy lol, not fun. The really dated "stereotypically savage african trive" gag is here :/

Beginning bit with the car coming at the kid (and viewer) gave me anxiety. I know it's a kid jumping progressively farther, but I like how it escalates exponentially, and concludes with war and hell. This is how things go. This short knows that. Great animation, especially for the time.

The animation's very well-done, particularly due to the often-changing perspective. It all progresses and escalates in an amusing way. I felt an odd connection to this piece myself, because it looks very much like a recurring dream I've been having since middle school.

Of interest only as a piece of animation history.

Well, ok then. Gets some credit for taking a simple idea and exploiting it to the fullest, but beyond a few funny gags it gets old pretty quick.

There isn't much physics in Jumping. It's on par with let's say Miyazaki's sweeps on Castle on the Sky animationwise.
