A thriller in every sense of the word I literally found myself getting as close to the screen as possible when the prank goes horribly wrong I also liked that all the scary moment are done in shadow and you never see the villain My only complaint is I doubt anyone could mistake Paul Walker 's voice for a female

This was so lazily written. The villain is some sort of omnipresent, overpowered creature (even though he's just a human) that sees, hears and knows everything; there's no explanation as to why, it just is. And I'd get it if the film were some sort of unrealistic, wacky type of adventure, but it seems to have a realistic approach to the way things unfold. I wouldn't call it boring though, so there's that.

While "Joy Ride" isn't without it's problems, without Paul Walker it just might be.

Candy-cane! Where are you Candy-cane? Good premise, but cheeseball Steve Zahn is actually the best actor. That isn't good.

"Joy Ride" Takes cues from "Duel" and "The Hitcher", features the cliched prankster/killer, and is rife with implausible coincidences and close calls. Nevertheless it nicely lives up to its description as a thriller - there is never a dull moment and plenty of tense ones, and I'm always thankful for a filmmaker who can actually craft suspense instead of falling back on splatter. It's easy to pick apart for its many flaws, but honestly, I still enjoyed it quite a bit.

Joy Ride might not be the smartest thriller out there but as an adrenaline rush of a good time, it does more than a good job. It uses film form to generate suspense and tension, its plot is basic and allows for a good number of scenes designed to make your heart race, and Ted Levine has a great voice for the villain, whom we never see. It might be too unbelievable for some, but if you're on-board with the premise and promise not to over think it you're going to have a good time

Well made thriller/horror with the tension built up well. The whole look and locations are good as they give it an every man feeling. The acting is all really well done by the main characters with a nod to the villain who basically is a character with just a voice. The biggest problem is characters making silly decisions.

Ok, I'm a sucker for road thrillers, so even if they're bad I'll still enjoy them. The ending makes no sense, though. I doubt it was the original one.

I'm going to pay this one out as being a totally enjoyable, tense and worthwhile film. It's a well-made B-movie with some actual characterisation and you don't see that very often.

An effective psycho-killer thriller with a simple but suspenseful chase premise (semi-trucks have never been more terrifying), believable protagonists (Zahn is especially good as the high-energy troublemaker) and a chilling faceless villain (Levine's creepy deep drawl doesn't need visual support). A few more "how" and "why" answers would be nice as the terrifying plot developments pile up, but in the end, your pounding heart takes the forefront in this frantic flick that keeps you on your toes.

This movie has more candycanes in it than Christmas. I must say, this film is pretty fun. J.J. Abrams script keeps this thing alive. Steve Zahn's performance keeps you glued to the tv as he is just awesome. Leelee Sobieski burns up the screen with her beauty. Then there's Paul Walker... behind the wheel as usual. He didn't do a poor job, and I don't like to speak ill of the dead, but he did drag this film down a little bit...

It's a daft slasher flick with a (not so) original murder weapon. It could make a good companion piece to Smokey and the Bandit as an exploration of CB radio! Pretty damn good idea I think.

Excellent modern day thriller doesn't always stand up to critique, but always is gripping and keeps you on the edge of your seat. A possible B-movie turned into something special, and played well by the three leads (including the gorgeous Sobieski).

It aint Duel, folks. But then again, nothing is quite like Duel. It's been many a year since I've seen this one (probably about 12-13 to be exact) but here I am, working from home in October '14 and it's definitely competing hard for my attention. A solid thriller that generates some real tension at times. Hard for me to say anything beyond that, since, well, I'm still watching it and my memory of the final 1/3 of the movie is not so good. But this feels like a mid-level Tier 6'er to me.

Joy Ride merely exists to provide suspense and titillate, having nothing to say and nowhere else to go. As a pure diversion, you could do worse, but there definitely will be more joy felt in the ride home from the theater than there is in watching the one onscreen.
