Action western, based on a DC Comics character, about a bounty hunter who is asked by the U.S. military to stop a terrorist in order to eradicate the outstanding warrants on his own head. a confusing and poorly shot adaptation of a minor comic-book story that feels days longer than its 80-minute running time.... a jumble of supernatural elements, a love story and selective bits of the comic book. None of the parts are developed enough to be interesting.

I have no excuse for watching this. The vengeance story is clichéed, predictable and utterly suspenseless, and the dialogue is not tongue-in-cheek ridiculous, but actually offensively bad. "They say that a man with revenge in his heart should dig two graves. One for his enemy and one for himself. I guess mine's just gonna have to wait." Seriously? No, seriously? Also. Megan Fox should be banned from ever again uttering a word on screen. She's pretty much the female Sam Worthington.

This is one of the worst movies ever - not only because it's awful on its own merits, but because they completely misunderstood and ruined the source material it's based on.Jonah Hex was not a superpowered being, he was not revived by mystical native American powers nor was he abe to talk to the dead. The Jonah Hex comics, while at times touching on fantastical elements, was at its best a grounded story about a harden, charismatic badass with fantastic stories. This film is an insult to the comics

It's good until about the time you are introduced to Megan Fox's character. Partly because she is awful in all respects and partly because the script is rather shallow and uninspired. Brolin, Malkovich and the fact that's it's run time is so low make it watchable once, but that's about it.

What gets bigger the more u take away? A hole. What gets smaller the more u add? This movie. Hex is a simple, but perfect character 2 build a gritty western around so what's w/ all the hardware & magical powers? Hex is now also part The Crow & part James f-cking Bond(!) which adds up 2 one of the most generic, dull & uninspired "westerns" ur likely 2 c. Unfortunately DC is owned by Warner, which allows Warner 2 swallow & crap out their characters however they please, & that's not good 4 any1.

A deeply odd attempt at smooshing a Western antihero into an action blockbuster mold, mostly by piling a bunch of other genres on top, with Hex getting magic powers and steampunk weapons, fighting Confederate terrorists and being resurrected by cringey Native American magic. Each scene seems to be there to check off a box on the list of Cool Things To Put In Your Movie, held together by a predicable set of plot beats. Enjoyable when it's being absolutely over-the-top ridiculous, bland otherwise.

It's a shame I have to use numbers for the score because I want to rate it as eeeeeeh. Or . Or so-what. This is 80 (?) minutes of meh. It's like they hired a bunch of good actors (and Megan Fox) and then thought "Now what". I really wish I had waited until I discovered immortality and had billions of years to fill before watching this. Also, I could rate this lower but that might imply there is entertainment from the badness. No, no and thrice no.

It's no instant classic, but it's got a lot of instant action. This film is like having a Red Bull as opposed to a nice red wine. For the right people it's the right choice every time. Lots of eye candy (including Megan Fox) and some really cool fight choreography.

This horrible piece of shit makes zero sense and all of it is too dark to see what's going on. The only time you can see is when they're showcasing some truly wretched CGI. Megan Fox is terrible, bringing nothing to the movie, and Brolin slurs every line through some horrible prosthetics. The worst film since "Gamer" last year. 10 points for Malkovich's facial hair.

Hayward's live-action adaptation of a DC Comics superhero series from the Seventies comes across as an imitation spaghetti Western translated back into vernacular American, a mac-and-cheese Western, let's call it, or a Beefaroni Western. The plot stuff will satisfy no one's hankering for a Western, or even a spaghetti Western. It can only serve to measure the genre's further advance into decadence.

This movie would've been much better as a bond film. It has everything a great bond film has, except a chase scene and a good story that simply moves too fast for you to notice the holes. Here you can see the holes as well as a great villain, a hot chick in a corset, and a steampunk-esk array of weaponry that lets it stumble into an alright movie. Maybe next time they can work on that plot thing.

Not quite as bad as I was expecting given the reputation, but bad. Feels like large portions of the film are missing--it's not even 75 minutes before the credits roll--and the action is incompetently filmed, giving the audience no sense of spatial relations or really what's going on. The DP also shot Transformers, which had some of the same issues, but this one is even worse, perhaps because of the director's lack of experience. The actors really try, giving more effort than it deserves.

I've always heard about how bad this movie was and to tell you the truth I didn't think it was that bad at all. This looks like a Western and feels like a comic book but not in a jokey kind of way, so most people would most likely be disappointed by this because it most likely would've been what they wanted or were expecting. This would've worked better with an R rating.

Not as bad as I'd been led to believe, but still pretty dire. I find it fascinating that Hollywood continues to believe that steampunk Wild West is a mass-market platform. This is a bad movie, but not so different from all the MCU superhero movies Disney continues to churn out. It's just another bland character in a bland story shooting lots of bad guys.

Indeed awful. Josh Brolin is good at laconically delivering one-liners and Fassbender is fun as the over-the-top henchman, but this typifies the worst parts of comic book movies before the boom started (before the original X-Men, really). There's no depth to any of the characters (shocking to see a prostitute with heart of gold), the action stinks, and the story is trite and one we've seen time and time again.

I really didn't have any problems with this movie. I thought the premise of the story was pretty interesting. I thought the casting was also spot on. Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, Aiden Quinn, and Megan Fox all did a good job with the script they were given.
I especially liked Megan Fox. I wish they would have developed her character more. The final scene on the boat of her kicking ass was awesome. I really think they should have had her as more of a partner instead of in a supporting role.

Some funny stuff in this movie. I laughed pretty hard within the first 10 minutes. Dynamite cast, Josh Brolin, John Malcovich, Megan Fox, totally underrated. Some of this movie is cheesy, but this is an excellent spoof on a bunch of old westerns. Tons of action. Yes this is historically incorrect, and full of mystical mumbo jumbo, like talking to the dead, but who cares, this movie is over the top, entertaining and bizarrely fun.

I don't understand why this movie gets so many horrible reviews. My PSI for this movie was a 33 and I don't agree with that at all. I thought that this was a fun comic book turned into a western movie. I thought that Brolin was a really good Hex, Fox was what her name implies a total fox and Fassbender was an awesome badass Irish terrorist. Oh and don't forget Malkovich as the other terrorist with the worst hair ever in a movie. Everyone played their parts well and it created some entertainment.

What a thoroughly bizarre movie this is. A completely incomprehensible plot, frequently silly and cliched dialogue, and a odd cast that includes pre-fame Michael Fassbender and Michael Shannon, along with Arrested Development's Will Arnett in a serious role for some reason. With so many awesome/hot things, how did they fuck this up so badly? It's either down to the worst cinematography I've ever seen, studio interference or lack of respect for the source material. So much wasted talent. Every actor in this is way better than this film, I seriously don't understand what attracted them to this, money can't have been it - the budget looks so stretched it makes Wild Wild West look Oscar worthy. Still, wasted time on a Sunday afternoon. And it's barely over an hour long. So, it's practically over before you even realised what you're watching. I knew it was going to be crap. How much was cut from this movie that Michael Shannon is onscreen for literally three seconds and is the 6th highest actor on the billing? Also, how is this ONLY 70 mins? It feels much longer. I don't get the "It's good until..." reviews -- the movie is bad from the start, quickly bungling the introduction & making it impossible to care about any of the characters. For a comic book western, the movie has no visual style whatsoever. The animated opening looks TERRIBLE. What an ugly waste of time.

If there was a perfect example of a film's potential being compromised, it's with this one. It has the things needed to make a great popcorn film - a great cast (Michael Fassbender, Michael Shannon, John Malkovich, Josh Brolin), a script by Neveldine/Taylor of Crank High Voltage and Gamer, and music by the progressive metal band Mastodon - but it gets squandered, turning the film into a edited down and generic comic book film.

Jonah Hex is a film that needed something better than a strong lead actor. Josh Brolin gives it his all, but the rest of the film doesn't live up to his screen presence. Not that he's playing a unique character, as he's all archetypes, but at least he commanded my attention. Everything else falls flat. The best thing about it is that it only takes about 75 minutes to finish, meaning you won't waste much time if you decide to watch it.

This film only gets this rating because of Malkovich, Brolin, and Fassbender. There are so many cheesy moments it's difficult to pinpoint just one reason why this film is bad. Brolin's latex mouth is goofy. The music is particularly terrible and sounds like they lifted it from a direct to video release. Megan Fox isn't too bad but she instantly takes you right out of any movie she's in. This is a pretty half assed attempt at steampunk and I don't think they will ever get it right.
