Uma Thurman's young as a kitten, Robert Downey Jr.'s high as a kite, and Anthony Michael Hall's "playing the same jock as he does in every movie" performance is so dialed in, it set back the advancement of touch-tone phone technology by ten years, if not eleven. Paul Gleason's character tells us "you want sympathy, look between shit and syphilis in the dictionary." I'm guessing that's where you'll also find Johnny Be Good.

This was a movie that was a complete mess. A laugh here and there, but that was the best that this could offer. Does anyone remember the horrible remake song by Judas Priest to tie into this movie. Nothing really likable about this movie as it seemed as if everyone was trying way too hard to make this work and it didn't.

An undisciplined comedy without laughs.

I’ve heard for decades how awful the Anthony Michael Hall football movie was - and boy people weren’t kidding! Doesn’t seem to me like trying to capture a Porky’s vibe should be that impossible, but this film tries and doesn’t come even close. Even my wife, not an especially critical film watcher and pretty “go with the flow” with 90% of movies, turned to me halfway through and went “This movie is awful.” lmao

Absolutely awful, boring, weird scene changes, story is there but not really existent at the same time, absolutely unfunny on an even annoying fidgeting level, best seen in Robert Downey Jr character, he is ultra annoying here, every scene with him is torture. I can't think of a pro, okay Uma is kinda cute but that's it. Definitely one of the worst 80s “teeny movies” maybe even the worst as it delivers absolutely nothing.

I felt it was an odd choice to end the film with unedited footage of Pete Carroll arriving in Seattle completely free of punishment.

Just like everyone else, the NCAA must have hated this movie. Or maybe not. It was the 80s. There was probably some kind of Top Gun effect.

Pretty bad; definitely among the worst 80's teen comedies released by a bigger studio. The tone is all over the place, jokes fall flat and football recruitment process isn't really that cinematic subject to begin with. It's quite interesting how Anthony Michael Hall's career went downhill after this while his co-stars became big stars. That said, I wouldn't have expected any kind of greatness from Downey Jr. based on this film, and I have no idea what they were aiming at with his character.

Johnny Be Good makes me think of a football-themed North. It's a decent '80s cheesy comedy.

A true to life documentary highlighting the scandals that take place in college football recruiting. Unfortunately, it was accidentally released in the comedy genre and never got the attention it deserved.

Stupid football comedy starring the shrimpy geek from The Breakfast Club as a super cool jock. The crusty Judas Priest cover of Chuck Berry's tune was the only decent thing to come out of this project.
