Jiraiya the Hero

An action fantasy picture on a popular folkloric theme, with little plot and many fight scenes and special effects; one of the few remaining films of the first big director in Japan. The overall style feels very kabuki inspired. The frog's definitely the best part.

I really admire that, after Jiraiya transforms into a giant frog, begins devouring people alive, and throws them back up physically unscathed, they continue to attack him. This was pretty fun, and the fight choreography is basic but quite interesting, and probably better than in some of the shitty movies I've see from the 80s and 90s.

The first "ninja" film, uses lots of special effects but doesn't really tell the story of this folktale well.
