This 90's kid guilty pleasure has become a nostalgic Christmas classic. From the infamous "PUT THAT COOKIE DOWN!" and "I'm not a pervert!" to Arnold literally punching out a reindeer, this is one of Schwarzenegger's cheesiest, most over-the-top, attempted comedic performances ever, and it's wonderful. Toss in the fantastic Phil Hartman and ridiculous Sinbad, then add a heap of commercial Christmas cynicism and cartoonish violence, and it makes for oddly delightful fruit cake of a holiday film.

Likably silly vehicle for Schwarzenegger seems to want to recapture the genial bumbling of KINDERGARTEN COP - some of exec producer Chris Columbus' more acrid influence is here (Arnie decks a savage reindeer! Ho-ho-ho!) and had the film genuinely maintained a darker tone, it may have worked better and more effectively balanced the schmaltz. Schwarzenegger again shows his flair for light comedy and Hartman as a slimy, effete(?) neighbour nearly steals the film.

Somewhere in the 90s, in a dimly lit room, atop of some skyscraper in Hollywood, there must have been a secret meeting between top producers. They'd be sitting there, with their cigars, thinking up ways of further degrading Arnold Schwarzenegger's career. -"Let's put him in another disgustingly sugarsweet family comedy." -"Great idea! Okay, the last time we made him say 'ferret' over and over. What other words could showcase his horrible English? Suggestions?" -"How about the word.. 'Turbo'?"

A "Shit Sandwich" movie, in that it's the type to earn a witty one-line dig of a review. Except, even that's too much effort for this material, and every minute I think about it is another minute wasted. To say it represents everything I hate about the holidays, or studio films, would be putting it lightly. It represents everything I hate about the human race (especially you, Sinbad).

It's funny that all these years later movies like Krampus still make reference to these mob rushes that were occurring close to thirty years ago as if online shopping didn't pretty much butcher that. Somehow the novelty of waking up at 4:00am and getting worse and worse deals wore off. Not unlike the novelty of Sinbad...

Jingle All The Way is one the stupidest Christmas films ever, but Im guilty of watching this every year at Christmas time. I love Schwarzenegger in comedic roles and although he's incredibly cringe worthy here, he's absolutely hilarious also. And Sinbad & Hartman are funny too. The whole film is completely stupid but its humorously quotable. I should hate this poor excuse of a Christmas film, but it definitely falls into the 'it's so bad it's good' category and I hold my hands up to liking this.

Whilst I know I should hate this movie, I truly don't. In fact I love it. I'm only giving it an average score because I know in my heart it's a terrible movie, but hey, who cares? It's entertaining, it's got some good gags, it's so very charming and it was one of my favourite films as a child. Fuck you guys, it's great.

This is the world conservatives think they live in; from "rich suburbanite" as "relatable dude", to retail workers and cops laughing at a white guy who looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger, to the insipidity of Howard's reasons for neglecting his family being puffed up into a minor character flaw that can be triumphantly overcome by just Trying Real Hard, to all the horrifying jokes about police brutality and "going postal" and oh my god everything about Sinbad's character oh my god why.

It certainly does well in capturing that Christmas consumer craziness, with its over-the-top single-day plot filled with every-man-for-himself shopping shenanigans featuring the not-exactly-Academy-Award-worthy Arnold, his arsenal of awesome one-liners ("I'm not a pervert!"), and a couple of recurring antagonists. In terms of fitting in those Christmas spirit fuzzies, though, the film flops (Arnold's redemption is almost all luck), the kid's surprising and moving final act of generosity aside.

A lot of things are wrong here. First, the obvious: Schwarzenegger is trying to be funny (on purpose, that is). Also, a guy simply dubbed "SINBAD" is in the cast. That's ... a truly bad sign. ... Jingle All the Way almost feels like it's a satire of CorporateChristmas(TM) but that could just be because it's so inept it doesn't realize how bleak and disgusting it is. Among rapey Phil Hartman, unfunny Sinbad, Arnold attempting to (and later succeeding in) stealing from children, bad effects, Jake Lloyd, and TERBOWMANN there is nothing to like here.

First and foremost: this is a bad movie. The plot, acting, and pretty much everything else you can think of it just Hollywood Factory, by-the-numbers, processed cheese. Yes, some of us have nostalgia of seeing it as a kid. Yes, it's a Christmas movie. Yes, Phil Hartman is always awesome. So if you want to include those things and say "it's so bad it's good, we watch every Christmas with drinks and laugh at it" then go ahead. But don't say this is a good film.

Sinbad is terrible, Arnie is great – it’s a sort of tug of war between the two of them trying to see how cringy or how funny they can make the film, but it’s a cohesive narrative with a silly enough premise to follow and enjoy. I even liked the scenes with Lionel "Creepy McCreeperson" Hutz, the dodgy, pervy neighbour. I think most would be hard-pressed to call this a good film, but it's got to be given credit for scoring considerably higher than others of its ilk.

This starts off with a lot of promise. No, seriously. It could have legitimately been a great movie with a lot of heart & a good satirical spin on America's gaudy commercialized hellscape of a holiday season. But then it randomly decides to embrace the very thing it's trying to satirize, and it never actually picks a lane from then on. The vague racist undertones don't really help its cause, either. There are some funny bits- I laughed multiple times- but overall it's just dumb and pretty empty.

This movie is enormously entertaining, but only about 40% for the reasons it thinks it is. Today it reads as a satiric and dark take on the American consumerism that has replaced whatever Christmas was meant to mean to all non-religious people. It's all about horrible capitalist men using their children as pawns in a game to prove their worth. It feels closer to Bad Santa than A Christmas Story. Even Rodney King is just a joke to these people. And in the end the rich white man undeservedly wins.

I remember this movie being nostalgically fun, but on second viewing, it's actually pretty terrible. The acting is all over the place (featuring some great bad kid acting from Jake Lloyd.) The plot is paper thin and really only serves to set up some cartoonish action sequences and inexplicable Sinbad stand-up monologues. Phil Hartman is good as the creepy neighbor, but if you're over the age of five, this film is probably not going to cut it, even as a Christmas movie.

(Rewatch: the hilarity begins with whoever cast Schwarzenegger as suburban dad "Robert Langdon." At several points I wondered if they wrote the part for someone else, but Wikipedia says Arnie was quickly cast. No chemistry with Rita Wilson. I'd have preferred a more sympathetic Sinbad. The flying around was fun until it got too cartoony. I feel bad about Jake Lloyd. Fav scenes: undercover cop; punching out a reindeer.) This movie has everything you can ask for in a Christmas comedy.

There is some holiday fun to be found in Jingle All the Way. Not to mention an enormously quotable cookie line. Sinbad and the late great Phil Hartman add zest to their scenes. That being said, Jingle all the Way is a frantic, not so funny, and contains a pretty large lack or morals for a family film. It represent the commercialization of Christmas, we all know. And it is uncomfortable to say the least.
