Jerry Maguire used to be a typical sports agent: willing to do just about anything he could to get the biggest possible contracts for his clients, plus a nice commission for himself. Then, one day, he suddenly has second thoughts about what he's really doing. When he voices these doubts, he ends up losing his job and all of his clients, save Rod Tidwell, an egomaniacal football player. Can Jerry resurrect his career while still staying true to himself? Cuba Gooding Jr. is a black guy that plays a black guy and wins an Oscar. Looking past that, I can see the cheesiness of this film and how dumb it is at times but I still like it, even if it is a bit boring at times.

I was alive during this time, and while everyone began saying "show me the money", I somehow missed ever seeing this. I do miss the time when Tom Cruise played characters like this. Instead, he's now decided to become an action star and to kill himself filming a cool stunt. And you know what? It will probably be a really cool stunt.

Jerry Maguire is a good RomCom that has surprising number of quotable lines that stand out slightly from the rest of the rather well-written dialogue. Cruise, Zellweger and Gooding Jr. are great, and Lipnicki is adorable. The way in which Cruise wins Zellweger over his connection with her child is incredibly clichéd but works well thanks to the direction and acting. The humour elements worked better than the sappy ones, which seemed to drag. A good film, that could do with a slight edit.

Boring movie about a rich white man's problems, which are solved by being kind but also being white and rich. A movie which lacks any sort of cynicism while set in a dog-eat-dog environment, full of rich white people, just seems false. Tom Cruise is decent, Cuba Gooding Jr. is very very good (although saddled with poor material and serves as a magical black guy full of wisdom for Cruise to learn from) and it's just very long and dry. I don't get it at all.

The ultimate Hollywood piece. It checks all the boxes for me. It has Tom Cruise, optional Renée Zellweger, a silly love story, an ambitious hopeless but romantic comeback plot, and unforgettable lines (seriously). All of these do not make it the greatest Hollywood film but covers more than what the expectations are.

I wasn’t sure quite what to expect from this but I wasn’t expecting it to be so structurally bizarre and have 110% manic energy. It feels a bit too long and bloated, but it’s frequently very funny and every member of the cast is just fantastic - Zellweger is the best I’ve ever seen her, and you got Regina King and Bonnie Hunt and shit!

Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise) is a successful manager of elite athletes. When one day his conscience begins to play out, he decides to express his new philosophy as an independent manager. He does this together with the only athlete who has remained loyal to him, the football player Rod Tidwell, and his colleague Dorothy.

So many quotable lines. The film has great writing and storytelling from beginning to end, although the sideplot involving their marriage to their looming divorce is a bit rushed and choppy. Cruise is endlessly charismatic and fun to watch while Gooding and Zellweger provide great counterbalance characters. Its also weird watching Tidwell get fully KOed, only to come up and dance his ass off in the end, but hey, it was the 90s. What did they know?

I mean, I didn't buy it. This was a strange one. How she fell into him is obvious, but how he fell into her, I don't think was properly shown on screen. I did not but into how slowly, but so then again, so quickly everything developed. The pacing was off for me basically. I did enjoy it, but not that much.

rvw. i'll always think of it as a classic rom com to me. but this time i noticed his romance with her isn't really developed well lol. i noticed she's there for his ovation, she just fell for him from the memo, then overhearing his proposal story, then her son and him loving each other. and even his big iconic speech is too much about their working relationship. and this time i also realized that deaf guy in the elevator was probably just tryna get pussy too

Easily the best work of Tom Cruise, Renée Zellweger, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Cameron Crowe all at once. It's the kind of film that grows in your heart alongside its characters, so that the payoff feels truly earned, even if there's a handful of cheesy lines that didn't need to be there. -- Seen 2x

Jerry Maguire is one of the most criminally overrated films of the 90's and I've always been baffled by how much awards attention it gained. At best this is just a mediocre film that has some memorable moments. But the drama, romance & comedy all underwhelms. Tom Cruise gives possibly his most melodramatic performance. And I wasn't convinced by love interest Renée Zellweger in the slightest. And how Cuba Gooding Jr gained an Oscar still baffles me. But the screenplay certianly has it's moments.

An atypical, roller-coaster-like plot trajectory gives this film a vibrantly distinct disposition (see Maguire's moral transformation only 10 minutes in and the vacillating and volatile romantic side-story that remains so after marriage) that's underscored further by its zany humour, engaging sports-business drama, and the fascinating oscillating nature of the lead character, and compromised only slightly by the happy ending. The film's pace is a little quick, but it's better than too slow.

Mostly smart writing--one of the few romcoms that doesn't induce waves of nausea--although it's unclear why anyone might have strong feelings for Zellweger one way or the other. Lipnicki has got to be the cutest kid in movies ever, and I fucking hate kids. Cruise is the perfect combination of smarmy and likable. The happy ending is forced, though, and being asked to believe Tom Cruise has a soul--much less one that pines for a woman--is beyond the pale. Best to turn it off after the final game.

Entirely relies on the viewer's ability to buy into Crowe's filmmaking conventions (good guys don't finish last, love and honour above all else, etc), without that it won't amount to much, but that allowed, this is a geniune film that might make the world a better place just by its existence.

While it spawned memorable scenes and pieces od dialogue, the movie fell to typical tropes despite an original overplot. Cruise is an unimpressive mix of Jim Carrey and Nick Cage, yet Gooding Jr. Is great in showing his versatility compared to Boyz N The Hood. It was interesting, and iconic, but overall could have been better.

I dunno, guys. I love me some Cameron Crowe. I'm not opposed to some Tom Cruise. But Jerry Maguire left me a little cold. Maybe it's the sports management element? Maybe it's the just-a-little-too-cheesy screenplay? Maybe it's the fact that it all felt a little "been there, done that" seventeen years on (granted, not at all the movie's fault). It was a fun enough movie, but not a classic, for me.

Jerry Maguire is a sweet, pleasant movie that brings us nerve-racking scenes despite us being fully aware that nothing uncorrectable can happen. It's so effective that it can take us anywhere and it would still entertain. It's too long and a tad formulaic, but considering it's a romantic comedy, I think we can let the last one slide; it does far more right than wrong to really knock it for either of these. It also contains a great deal of moments you'll remember for years.

Although watchable, it is not a very good movie. Too cheesy throughout with little to no believable characters. It is basically "look at me, I am Tom Cruise". This was a kind of stepping stone movie for me back when it came out--transitioning from blockbusters and comedies about nothing at all to a more grown-up fare. It's clearly about something, which is what I liked about it then, and where I think it fails too often now. It relies too heavily on manufactured moments, trite dialogue, and "significant" camera movements to highlight big moments. That said, the supporting players here are great: Cuba, Jay Mohr, Regina King, and esp. Bonnie Hunt.
