J'Entends Plus La Guitare draws on the filmmaker's long-term relationship with Nico, who passed away three years before this film was made, to tell the story of addictive love between Marianne, a pensive German woman and Gerard, her articulate, indecisive French lover. Gerard lets his emotional and chemical dependency shelter him from the responsibilities he cannot bear to accept, and Marianne uses hers as a weapon to draw him irrevocably closer to him.
