A small (in terms of budget too) existentialist film, which I enjoyed quite a lot. It's not the most original or creative movie, but it has a heart.

Enormously enjoyable from its first scene to its last. One of the best films of 2012 so far. Tons of huge laughs, and great performances from the whole cast. It's a shame Jason Segel spends most of his time stuck on a CBS laugh track sitcom; he's a no bullshit talent.

While I do not buy into the conceit of this movie, just as I don't in Signs, the emotional highs and lows of this film strike a very real chord with me. I would compare my reaction to people who love cheesy romantic comedies. I recognize its deep flaws, but I love the hell out of it anyway

As with the other Duplass movies it is not a gut buster. However it does try harder than the average comedy. Segel and Helms both are entertaining. Not sure the weird Surandon story was necessary.

It's probably because Cyrus was the last Duplass vehicle that I saw, but I liked this flick quite a bit. Despite a pretty thin screenplay, Segel (even though he's not out of his comfort zone) and Helms are great, and I give the film big bonus points for the last 30 minutes.

Setup-wise (a haphazard slacker and his on-track older brother making friends), it's fine. But nothing, and certainly not the Susan Sarandon subplot, elevates the film much above mere averageness.

Cheesy film about two guys who are both manchildren in their own ways, that dwells in adolescent existential philosophy. At least Sarandon and Chong's subplot gives something a little charming and unique.

This film clearly explains destiny as not just an idea, but as a reality. I love the way the story develops. This is the second amazing comedy film that made me cry (the other one's Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind). This is a life-changing film so i recommend you watch it. Dialogue I can't forget: About being at a random position at a certain time in the universe. This makes me think about my existence, why I exist, why I exist at this particular time and space, and that do I really exist.

It's a Duplass Brothers film, so the trailer makes you think it'll be hilarious, and the actual film then makes you feel bad for laughing at people having a really hard time with their lives. I probably won't watch it again, Cyrus was better.

This comedy is just average at best, not nearly enough laughs for material that should be simpler to make funny. Not sure if the problem is directing, script or Segal, but it just doesn't seem to click. Saying all that it isn't a bad watch and is interesting enough and all the supporting cast are real good.

The doc-style camera work here is a bit annoying but it doesn't take away from the heartfelt performances and intriguing one-day storyline. Segel's philosophical optimist, Helms' neurotic husband, and Sarandon's lonely single mother all feel wonderfully real, as do their own personal journeys that converge in a beautiful and moving ending. It's an understated film that packs a powerful emotional punch, thanks to its endearingly simple script and focused character development.

A charming exploration of the notion of fate and circumstance. Another simple film that takes pleasure in the tales of regular joe characters, and a glorification to the banal. Flip-flops a little between realism and fantasy before landing a little on the side of the magical. It doesn't get in your face with the adventure or the humour, which is a refreshing change from more mainstream fare. A feel-good and life-affirming film.

Feels like a strange sort of outlined sketch of a movie that somehow during its compact runtime ends up adding up to something grander than the sum of its parts. Helms and Segel make the most of the simple screenplay, and bar some spectacuarly irritating camerawork I really just liked it a lot.

Perhaps it could be written of as just another film about a man who can't grow up. This character type is sort of contemporary superhero of American indie flicks. But this film caught me off-guard by complete absence of cynicism and almost overwhelming sentimentality. Oh, and for once it wasn't protagonist with romance story-line.

As a similarly Sasquatch-sized, deadbeat man, I can sympathize with Jeff quite a bit. Really, you can relate with all the characters here, which is kind of the point of the whole thing. Even if Mark and Jay's indie stylings don't translate quite as well with big names and a bigger budget, this is something worth checking out.

a good film with some touching moments - i expected it to be much funnier though. also, it just felt sappy at the end as it opted out for an easy ending instead of actually addressing the problems established by the characters throughout the film. and the subplot involving the mother was just depressing.

Like an observational comedian without punchlines, Jeff.. has a few very real characters and acknowledges some of the quirkier aspects of life in a lightly amusing way, but when all's said and done there's no real point to it all. I dunno whether it was largely improvised or there's an issue with the editing, but many scenes feel oddly unfinished - do what they have to, and move on. Sarandon's sub-plot should've been dropped completely and the time dedicated to more scenes with the two brothers.

A quirky independent film done by the Duplass brothers. I loved Jason Segel as the "Signs" obsessed man-child who finds redemption at last. Ed Helms played a more down to earth part in this film, which was refreshing. I couldn't care less about Susan Sarandon's sub-plot, it just felt so unnecessary. I did love how the Porsche kept getting destroyed and I loved the elusive search for "Kevin". The camera work was awful, too much zooming in and out, it got very distracting. Otherwise, charming.

Movies like this rise or fall with their characters. The characters are all likable and relatable because they strike that balance of well-meaning and flawed. I had to knock off a lot of points for the incredibly distracting and horrible camera work, though. My god, can it stop moving for just one second?

Weak. There are a couple OK moments, but it all feels so inconsequential, especially because the Duplass brothers are trying to make it all seem so important. A lot of it is so obvious that you would think they intentionally made it so obvious, but it feels like laziness to me.

An interesting combination of a slacker movie and discontented married-people movie, with Jason Segel the focus of the first element and Ed Helms the focus of the second. The chemistry between Helms and Segel is surprisingly natural, something I've noticed Segel seems to bring to every film he's in. The performances are all, in fact, quite good and I enjoyed almost everything about this film, except the bizarre payoff which just doesn't seem worthy of the seventy-three minutes that precede it.

Unfortunately an indie film that doesn't rise above the low expectations that go with indie films. Slow, colorless, humorless, mostly charmless, but bad. It had it's moments, it's the kind of thing you can watch in the background while doing something interesting and not miss out on much.

A relatively inconsequential film in the grand scheme of things, but one I nevertheless had a fun time watching. Nice work from the whole cast. This is bad. This is like Lifetime/Hallmark bad. I'm honestly surprised not only that the Duplass brothers would write such cheesy crap but that Greer, Helms, Sarandon, and Segel would all agree to be in it. I mean the directing and acting weren't that bad, but the screenplay was just downright awful. Please don't let the exterior fool you. This movie is a must skip.

it's slow for the majority of the movie, simply meandering through the duration with practically nothing of note, but at the end everything kind of congeals into a quite remarkable finale. i'll say that i liked this movie, but i can't say that it was worth the wait of an hour just to see a great ending.

Maybe it's just because Jason Segal is so insanely charming, but this really worked for me. Slight, but effective slice of life story about finding purpose in life. Maybe it's because I wonder about the same things that trouble Jeff (though not, in any way, connected to Signs) but I identify with the story. I don't want to end up like Pat (Helms) who coasts by thinking his new car means more than the people around him. I think anyone in their late 20s and early 30s with a crushing uncertainty about their future will get something out of this.

Much of the early comedy is subtle and understated which here I found to be really effective. It's a feel-good picture that's more of a dramedy than straight comedy, with some real negative undertones, especially in the relationship between Jeff and his mother & Pat and his wife. Ed Helms' delivery is impeccable and so natural, and Segel is no slouch either (an underrated talent). Most scenes with Sarandon are poorly-crafted. The last 25 minutes are very poignant if not a little cheesy. See it!

It has a few funny moments, and Helms plays pretty well against type. It is a super short 82 minutes and even has a pointless Susan Sarandon subplot padding it to get to that mark. The brothers story works well, though. The Duplass Bros keep on making movies about brothers that don't get along (Puffy Chair also)... awkward!

Not at all what I was expecting. For whatever reason, I was anticipating a "Big Fan"-style, lo-fi depiction of a rudderless early 30s man-child, groping his way through his extended adolescence. But that's now what this is. In fact, I'm not entirely sure what it is. Had its moments...Segel and Helms are great in their roles, but ultimately I was left wanting so much more. The fact that it's barely 80 minutes doesn't help. It's much funnier if you've seen "Signs" first, so definitely do that.

Lightweight, and goes way overboard on the whimsy (particularly during that running-around-on-the-bridge climax), but Segel is immensely likable--he gets us on his side and in his corner almost immediately. And the Duplass bros helm this thing with easygoing aplomb. I didn't think it was ever laugh-out-loud funny, but it worked for the majority of its running time as a slice of life, appealingly performed by its lead.

This is a good film that fails to offer an interesting enough plot. It's strongest feature is that its characters have traits that are uncomfortably similar to traits that I and people I know have. It has an interesting and straightforward portrayal of flaws that are all too common. The problem is the resolution is fairly weak and predictable. Avoid if you need a more engaging plot, but worth a watch if you like seeing realistic characters interact and seeing an emotional story unfold.

Saw a Duplass double bill tonight, this movie and the Do-Deca-Pentathlon. While there are a lot of similarities in the setup and subject matter, Jeff is by far the more interesting story, and the plot twists and dialogue here are silly and touching at the same time. Segel, Helms and the supporting cast, especially Judy Greer, are excellent.
