Not that original. Not that insightful. The fading rock-star trope, deadbeat dad looking to reconnect trope, and so many other tropes just seem so tired here. Abigail Breslin is fine here, but she seems to be playing opposite a mentally absent Alessandro Nivola.

A story that's dragging and never gets very electric from a lousy script, but there are beats of some sincere and less contrived moments - also a good cast repair some of the damage. *Preview*: #13#, exp-3*, story, reviews, cast, R2.

Formulaic, but overall a great feel good film, with a touching ending and scenes throughout excellently acted and a above average script! Highly recommended.
