Jade Warrior

A Chinese wuxia set in ... Finland? It's an odd concept, but an interesting take on the genre. Once you get past the confusing first twenty minutes, just sit back and watch the wire-fu and the choreography of the limited martial arts sequences. There are worse movies out there, but tightening up the plot would have upped this at least one level.

This Sino-Finnish co-production is one odd movie. Stick with the subtitles, though--the English dub is laughably bad.

This film looks beautiful, and the concept of the storyline is interesting and a little bit different. However, the minutiae of the plot is extremely convoluted and at times it's downright confusing. I think they aimed for enigmatic and mysterious, but just ended up with a muddle. However, it's an ambitious and good-looking film and it did hold my attention all the way through. Considering it's the director's first effort, it's not bad at all.
