Jackson County Jail

This Roger Corman production is a solid action exploitation flick. It's extremely well-paced with a really great supporting cast ... Mary Woronov, Betty Thomas and Hal Needham all pop up in minor roles.

It really picks up after the first 20 minutes and then has a real and gritty feel.

A woman driving across country ends up forced to spend the night in a backwoods county lockup, where she gets raped by a hillbilly cop. She murders the cop in a rage, and then goes on the run with another prisoner. It's not great and offers zero surprises...and other than showcasing the ability of a young Tommy Lee Jones to radiate a powerful aura of hopelessness without a word, I can't really think of a compelling reason for this to exist.

This is one of those movies that had a cult following long before every Z-grade piece of offal started claiming to be a cult movie, but I don't really understand its appeal. It's competent, and it seems to be trying to say something, but it's cruel, ugly, and violent
