Jackals & Fireflies

Maybe it’s a generalization, but poetry today seems very often to be trying rather too hard to achieve a kind of urban hipness. But it’s also true that, even though I’ve only spent a few days in New York City, my short time there did give me a strong impression that wandering the streets of Manhattan will provide a very great abundance of opportunities for overhearing comments by passers-by that are, by turns, memorable, poignant, bizarre and hilarious.
