Beautifully creepy in parts, but a bit silly and boring in other parts. Kinski is excellent. Note that this film makes zero attempt at historical accuracy.

Grotesquely romantic and vaguely eerie. Kinski almost evoke sympathy as the tormented and mysterious Jack the Ripper, and the exquisite cinematography add a certain deranged gentility and odd mysticism to the grimness of the story.

I've seen a few of Franco's movies and I'm still trying to figure out his greatness. He's got a few things going for him, but they always seem to lack something. I'll give this one the benefit of the doubt since I saw it with a not exactly great english dub.

The music was annoying and the film had long boring stretches between the murders and gory bits. The film has a very cheap feel to it and it didn't even try to make it seem like 19th century London. I'm unable to gauge the acting as I had to watch a shitty English dub. Klaus Kinski play the same character he almost always does and I'm not really big fan. There's also a lame song and dance number thrown in for some reason.

Lame amateurish movie (even by Franco standards). Even fails to make Klaus Kinski creepy. How's that even possible?
