Jack and the Beanstalk

The prince's face is far creepier than the giants! Out of date for even the 50's. Low rent and uninspired. Yet Bud and Lou still pull through.

Funny low budget fantasy musical with a creepy prince (was Botox a thing back then?) and a strangely attractive giantess (Dorothy Ford). There are decent laughs but toward the end there was an over-reliance on people getting hit in the buttocks. Can't wait for the restoration I supported on Kickstarter. Shitty kid at the end. Fav scenes: dancing with the giantess; townspeople dancing over the giant's grave/hole to China.

Abbott & Costello doing what Laurel & Hardy did in the 1930s, stepping a little out of their element to do a more of a fairy tale adventure, except Abbott & Costello managed to maintain what made them great while Laurel & Hardy drowned in MGM fluff. A little weird seeing the comic duo in this setting, they provide lots of laughs, bring down the giant, and still get people to deliver the song and romance without it take too much away for the reason to watch this. The Bud Abbott stupidity.

Let's be honest, everyone in this is terrible except for Abbott and Costello. I watched this as a kid, my Nan bought it for us on VHS, but it is only watching it now that I notice that the so-called giant is not very big at all! I'll be generous and suggest this is because Yardbrough, Curtis and (Pat) Costello are aiming for a symbolic as opposed to an iconic giant.

Filled with terrible musical numbers and lacking any classic Abbott & Costello bits or even banter.

Fine for kids, but not the best Abbot and Costello movie.
