As its title suggests, this is the cinematic equivalent of a self-portrait, so JLG tells us about himself as an artist and a man in a series of sketches that fill in some of the gaps while still remaining as elusive as ever. Scenes where Godard writes the legendary narration to Je vous salue, Sarajevo and examines his filmography run up against scenes where he walks on a beach and plays tennis. Good stuff.

Still my guy no matter how many of his films I see

pretty boring

Hmmm, this period of Godard's work (and even by an earlier date) always leaves my bullshit detector failing. Which is interesting, and plausibly a tenet of cinema in some 'purer' mode. So I get it?
