It's Pat

I didn't *just* see this, so don't look at me like I'm some sort of cultural dinosaur. In fact, I saw this in theaters. Why? You're asking me 'why'? Well, let's see, I don't really know. Maybe I secretly yearn to be a woman. Maybe my time is infinitely less valuable than yours. Maybe I've always hated myself and hoped that seeing this would finally send me into the warm, comforting arms of Death. All I know is I saw this when I was eight years old and I haven't been happy since.

The SNL filmography is pretty hit-and-miss, but it's hard to find a more reviled entry than IT'S PAT. The single joke, of course, is the fact that we never know if Pat (Julia Sweeney) is a man or a woman. Pat's neighbor (Charles Rocket) becomes obsessed with the question--and with Pat. In sketch form, Pat could conceivably be amusing, but here, Pat grows very tiresome, given no help by the threadbare story, idiotic jokes, and lack of direction (of any kind). Ween factors into the plot, FYI.

The problem with Saturday Night Live is that for every Wayne's World success, there's an It's Pat failure to balance it out. Stretching out a 5 minute skit into 90 minute shitfest doesn't work here.

God help me, but I didn't hate it.

I give this a 10 because I'm feeling extremely charitable today after suffering through "Brother Nature" last night.

This has the reputation of being the worst of the SNL movies, but if that's true, then the others must be pretty good. I suppose it's no masterpiece by any objective standard, and to be honest, it's not very funny either, but it gets a lot of mileage out of its sheer eccentricity, much like Pootie Tang. The morbid curiosity I felt about the whole endeavor was similar the way the characters felt about Pat within the world of the film. In the end, I enjoyed it more than most movies I've seen.

A nonstop barrage of obnoxiousness that it almost becomes endearing. Charles Rocket subplot is from another dimension of dank http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2AXYd4LEXM THIS for 70 god damn minutes.

Probably the worst offender of the "movie that was based on a short sketch and had no business being stretched into a feature" category.

A bad 5 minute skit given full length theater film treatment WTF..

This is a horrible unfunny movie. It worked as a Saturday Night Live sketch but it was to thin to stretch into a movie.

The saturation of these shitty SNL movie in the 90s was just absurd. I recall this one was especially irritating.

Add one more to the deluge of sub-par sub-SNL sketch-cum-films. Just because it's funny for five minutes does not mean it'll be funny for, oh, anything over 5. The radio show thing was actually OK, however.

Completely forgot about this movie until the other day...I'm pretty much in agreement with eveelun, androgyny is entertaining for only so long. Then it gets old, and fast. Meh, this movie was pretty much just a time waster for me. Either that, or I wanted to see how far through the movie I could get before I walked away. ::shrugs::

Hate!

Your favorite gender-less person gets his/her own piece of crap movie. It's easy to forget that for every sparkling diamond that SNL alums create, there are just as many, or more, shiny turds.

I liked the Pat character on Saturday Night Live when I was 12 years old, but it is not enough to carry a movie.

Pat is a terrible, terrible character. Androgyny? That's the kind of humor that is perhaps funny for a few seconds, and only in very particular circumstances. It just can't sustain a feature length film.

What is it about this movie that it has haunted my dreams and memories for so long? Why do I still find that scene where Pat has his/her own radio show so hilarious? What the fuck is this movie? WHY DO I KIND OF LIKE IT? Oh god....

Simply not funny and actually down right creepy to watch.
