David Chiang heads up a small group of special agents in this "Charlie's Angels" take-off. A surprisingly sexy Yukari Oshima takes over a crime syndicate and it's up to Moon Lee, Elaine Lui, Alex Fong, and some un-named Japanese actor to take her down. (HKFlix)

After a group of drug agents wipe out a huge poppy growing operation, the criminals whose heroin was being supplied by those fields get together and murder a bunch of cops. So the DEA enlists the Iron Angels to take down the criminal gangs. There's some laughably choppy exposition and the story is pretty bare bones, but there's several good kung fu scraps and extremely bloody shootouts, including a massacre in a house that almost rivals the one in A Better Tomorrow 2.

There were some great action set pieces in this movie but there were also a lot of parts that dragged on. The soundtrack was kind of weird and didn't really fit the film while also not being completely distracting.

[drunk] Some really great action scenes keep the interest alive, but the plot was incomprehensible to me, I didn't know who anyone was, essentially I had no idea what was going on at any time, but perked up when something exploded. Next up: Michael Bay's filmography. I guess.

Kung Fu Action = Good. Explosions Action = Boring. This is the latter.

Viewed April 9, 2022. Theresa Woo's girls with guns classic is pretty much wall-to-wall action, all of it destructive and dangerous-looking. What makes it work is the humorous approach it takes to building out its action sequences - gestures like a bad guy's body being used to smother a grenade - and the extremely charismatic performances from Moon Lee, Elaine Lui and Yukari Oshima.

Pretty standard stuff but it got me into Moon Lee (since her movies are hard to get a hold of). The ending action scenes were great. The rest kind of average surprisingly. It's HK action so the plot wasn't really all that important. I missed why the angels were sent to take down Yukari Oshima but besides that it was a simple "catch the bad guy with your best agents" plot.

Tight pacing, amazing action scenes, Moon Lee and Yukari Oshima in their prime duking it out - an awesome action flick, one of the most defining ones out of the Golden Age of Hongkong Action.
