The narrative's stale and there isn't anything particularly noteworthy about it. Still, it has its moments. Some of those moments are quite good.

Well acted and moving love story. Jim Broadbent is wonderful. Strongly recommended.

A compelling biography enhanced by excellent performances from the entire cast.

Though the performances of the four leads are undeniably top-draw, they are let down by a script that is only occasionally as good as it wants, and deserves, to be. It's plain to see that this film could have been a truly brilliant piece of work, but never fully achieved that ambition, and that is maddeningly frustrating.

sorry Iris, they made me focus on Kate's tits and other bits, rather than you (of course, you also had tits and other stuff, but well ...)

Eyre abre sua biopic com água. Premonitório, pois a mão leve do diretor dilui a textura dramática latente no material. A despeito das boas intenções, o storytelling insatisfatoriamente convencional é morno como as interpretações (o que espanta, dado o naipe do elenco britânico). Programa-família simpático, e só.

Moving depiction of a very long relationship. Great performances by all the main actors. Broadbent very much deserved the Oscar he got for that film.

The acting far outstrips the story and direction in this screen version of Elegy for Iris, based on the autumn years of Iris Murdoch. Jim Broadbent, Judi Dench and Kate Winslet acquit themselves very well, even while their characters are undercut by overcutting, specifically the tendency to cut to a flashback scene whenever Iris or Bayley slips into reverie (which is quite often). It's a device that would be just as heavy-handed the following year in another literary snoozer, The Hours.

Supremely well acted by all involved. Jim Broadbent and Hugh Bonneville didn't get the critical attention that Judi Dench and Kate Winslet got but were equally deserving in my opinion.

Brilliant performances make this film worth seeing, especially the luminous Kate Winslet.

Good performances don't make up for a boring and badly told story.
