Irene

Irene (1940), a talkie remake of Irene (1926), also lacks the burst-out laughs as the silent movie did. While the '26 film relied mostly on Colleen Moore's sparkling personality, Anna Neagle doesn't have the same appeal to me. Instead what carries the sound version is the elegance, a well mannered Ray Milland and a extended scene in grand color. With that still manages to become quite charming.
