Intimate Lighting

Quite interesting story, but characters seemed not developed enough.

A slice of the life of classical musicians in rural Czechoslovakia. A small movie, intimate indeed, but very charming, folksy, musical and well shot. If you're interested in the Czech New Wave, Intimate Lighting is one of the must-sees.

A good movie with the lightheartedness characteristic for so many New Wave movies, but overall a bit too slight to be really great.

Maratona em honra de Ivan Passer (1933 - 2020) filme #2. Diria que eu teria gostado mais se fosse musicista, um fim de semana na vida de pessoas que respiram música é uma bela e singela narrativa, mas me faltou aquele quê para me relacionar com o filme. Youtube.

Intimate is right. By Passer's own admission, the story is light (apparently he was seventh choice to direct - everyone else passed), but that gumption counts for something. For two hours, you feel like you're just hanging out with Czech folk musicians from the 1960's. It's rather endearing. A standout Quartet scene nearly makes the film.

Full of little moments that spotlight some absurdities in life with a light touch of humour. It's a pleasant watch, but never reaches the heights of either humour or insight that it could.
