I hate these feel-good movies. They make me feel bad.

Enjoyable comedy is perhaps a more 'serious' and vividly wrenching experience than the poster or premise sets you up for; whiplash inducing changes of tone are somewhat disorienting, but it's all kept on track by the high quality of performances all round, helping elevate the stock and clichéd characters into something memorable (Wahlberg, Byrne, Moner and a scene-stealing Martindale are very good). A lumpy brew, but all comes together in the end and is even quite touching in its own way.

Instant Family is a simple and clichéd story, made entertaining by some off the performances. Spencer and Notaro are great. Wahlberg and Byrne are tolerable. Moner is surprisingly good. There are plenty of sweet moments and plenty of contrivances. Most of the jokes land, with a pretty good Blind Side running gag. An alright film, but nothing special.

Although it focuses on the importance of adoption, it is not that great. It is a good family movie but apart from that doesn't have anything that shines through.

I only watched it for Tig Notaro and she delivered but the rest of the film was very formulaic and generic.

While "Instant Family" is a fairly effective drama it's also a slick, calculated, and manipulative one. It'll make you feel heartwarmed and dirty at the same time.

Way too long! This could have been told in a one hour TV episode. Poor juvenile delinquents, nothing is their fault. What a bunch of liberal crap!

Rendered likable because of three incredible performances from Byrne, Wahlberg and Spencer to create a semi realistic environment. What hurt the most was the typical Hollywood neatly wrapped up ending. It doesn't over complicate things when it could have and maybe should have. It's nothing more than enjoyable as an easy breeze. It's not a game changer but it still offers up enough emotional moments to remain grounded. A very solid movie and well acted by all involved.

Loosely based on a true story A feel good comedy about foster families and adoption The dialogue is sorta long and dragged out And the overall movie is a little too corny for my taste

Heartwarming without becoming schmaltzy, funny without becoming farce, it's just the right combination for a feel-good movie.

I had never thought of foster kids as a subject just begging for comedic treatment, and this flick goes to prove that I was right. A couple of decent laughs, but most of the time it tries too hard to be cute--when it's not being preachy, that is. Octavia Spencer and Tig Notaro do play off each other pretty well.

I watched this because of the higher than average ratings it had received, and they were right as it is a quality dramedy about foster-parenting/adoption. It was great to see Wahlberg in something lighter after too many films about real-life heroes (which this technically is as well). He and Byrne have good chemistry and the kids are believable. The film does a good job balancing drama and comedy, but as always, 2h duration is just too much and things do get a bit syrupy towards the end.

Nicely made up! A movie about adoption with a lot of stereotypical jokes. Also, a feel-good movie :). Had never heard of it before but very good and really makes a good impression.

Aile, evli çift, evlat edinme, koruyucu aile, ergenlik, çocuklar. SPOILER gerçekten iyi bir çiftin evlat edinme tecrübesini anlatıyor. Oldukça sinir bozucu. Ergen ile mücadeleleri beni bunaltti. Maalesef Çocuklarla izledim. Arada atlamak zorunda kaldım. Çocuklara uygun değil.

Underneath the expected schmaltzy parts there is a genuinely fine family movie with a game cast. The serious Daddy's Home.

The comedic parts of this are so enjoyable, and the drama feels so true to life -- the characters and their emotions and perspectives are just SO relatable, I think even comparable to NBC's This is Us (which also makes me cry almost every episode, don't judge me). I've never had and was never a foster child, I don't know any people who have, are, or were foster children, and yet, too relatable. Delete this video of me.

Too saccharine for my taste. I think it probably has some insight into the emotions of adoption and the cast are fine, it’s just too sickly sweet and light on laughs. Also, Cusack’s cameo is crazy fucking random.

Much better than I expected but that's probably because I don't like Mark Wahlberg and the movie poster doesn't do this any favors. Rose Byrne and Octavia Spencer are great as always. Isabela Moner's teenager is sharp and quick so her final acceptance is earned. I liked the honeymoon period and how the relationship with each kid changed which felt real. Weird Joan Cusack cameo at the end. Fav scene: tucking the kids into bed the first night.

It isn't perfect. It has a few flaws which bring it down a notch, but it has more than enough pluses to make up for them. Great performances by the whole cast, especially Wahlberg, Byrne, and Moner, pair with very clever writing and a cool cinematography style that flows from scene to scene. It never feels rushed or drawn out, stays interesting throughout, and balances its laughs and dramatic moments really well. Overall, very watchable, very funny, and very heartwarming.

My new favorite movie of the year. While not perfect, this is probably the most authentic look at the foster/adoptive care system that I've seen portrayed in media. Lots of laughs, lots of tears, plus Octavia Spencer and a woefully underused Julie Hagerty!
