Inner Sanctum

Fun structure (though I suppose ultimately a sort of pointless one). The sitcomminess in the middle bogs it down, and that kid is truly retarded, beanie and all (looks like they should've cast someone a bit younger). On the plus side, Mary Beth Hughes was sexy as hell, and Russell lent a certain grim but haunted Howard Duff-like quality to the proceedings. Also cool to see the father of legendary scifi author Fritz Leiber Jr in a cameo role.

Had a interesting intro, but the rest of felt very average and didn't engage in the same way. Still a standard B-mystery that passed the time in a okay way.

The story itself isn't very good and the acting is pretty bad but the wrap around it pretty cool.

OK short crime thriller.

A low-budget thriller in which a murderer hides out in a boarding house... but one of the occupants is a witness to his crime. There's nothing too special, but it has a brisk pace, some snappy dialogue, and Mary Beth Hughes is a steamy presence. Charles Russell isn't particularly riveting or anything, but he carries the film well enough. Some of the comic relief is kinda stupid, but some of it actually works. The child actor who plays a key role is a bit annoying, but not intolerably so.
