It's like a Hallmark version of "Capote"

Jones outperforms Hoffman but the film surrounding him fails to match his performance.

Manages to be simultaneously more complex and less subtle than "Capote". If you weigh Hoffman's performance against Jones', Jones is the truer Capote - but Hoffman's inner turmoil has more breathing room.

This movie gives the killers a more substantial amount of depth than the film "Capote," which this will no doubt be compared to (and rightfully so). Toby Jones provides an excellent performance of Truman Capote that I feel could've been on par with Hoffman had the script for his character been as strong. I think one of the real gems in the movie has to be Sandra Bullock though. Normally I'm not remotely impressed by her but she was great in this. It's a decent film but overall Capote is better.

Looks like I'm alone on this one. Micro/Macro: Like the characterised Truman Capote, the film is very light and very heavy. Charming, moving.

It was painful to see the very same story over again. Toby Jones as Truman Capote was good, but practially anybody else or the story did not reach any level of joy.

Good performances from Toby Jones and Sandra Bullock, but if you already know the story it doesn't add much else.

I think your opinion of this is bound to be coloured by whether you saw Capote first. I haven't seen Capote yet, so found this enjoyable and emotionally engaging. Jones' portrayal is complex, never allowing the viewer to get a finger on which side of his character is the truest - the flamboyant extrovert, or the tortured artist? I think it was Sigourney Weaver's character who hit the nail on the head; she likes him, but in no way does she trust him. I had the same feeling for most of the film.

Perhaps most infamous to have the bad fortune to cover the same ground as the excellent Capote but come out one year later. Even without the comparison, Infamous is pedestrian, resorting to faux documentary talking head footage to convey plot details or inner motivations and playing up a romantic entanglement between Truman Capote and one of the incarcerated subjects of In Cold Blood to heighten the drama. It all starts to feel phony.

it was quite nice to see how truman capote was portrayed in a multi-dimentional way. i have yet to see the film "capote" which apparently tells about basically the same story. maybe even read "in cold blood"! :)
