Incredible But True

Billed as Quentin Dupieux's exploration of time travel, but it's really his exploration of masculinity, femininity, and aging. Really clever thematic work going on with the absurdist premise perfectly utilized. 40% of this film is a guy bragging about his robotic dick, and yet it's tender, nuanced, and thought-provoking (the film, not his dick)

You want ants? This is how you get ants. Dupieux continues his quietly insane take on our quietly insane lives. I suppose this is kind of a thematic sequel to Deerskin in how it tackles insecurities related to aging and the need for affirmation, but y'know, it's Dupieux so what the hell, just go with it. And I was just thinking of Timecrimes this morning, too.

Probably one of the more main-stream friendly Dupieux films.

Apparently Dupieux is developing a bit of a cult following. Wrong (2012) being the only other film of his I've seen; my previous criticism of "low on substance... high on surrealism, some may deem pretentious" might actually be his style. Incroyable mais vrai is a bit better. The film seems to be about aging, mid-life crises and the different ways people deal though the ending montage feels like a trick better directors would avoid. Humorous with a few well-written conversations, but not enough.
