In the film, there are three women named Anne who each consecutively visit a seaside town. They each stay at the same small hotel by the shore and venture onto the beach where each of the Annes meet a group of the same people including a certain lifeguard who restlessly wanders up and down the beach. While the summary sounds like a good idea for a movie, the execution is not that great. The script, the acting, the camerawork and editing are beyond awful. Perhaps I'm missing some deeper meaning, but I can't even be bothered to try and find it.

Brisk and pleasant comedy about errors in translation. The lifeguard is hilarious.

Reminiscent of Woody Allen, a comedy of errors in translation written by a bored 25 year old trapped in a boring seaside town. A light and fluffy treatment of Koreans' stereotypes of bourgeois French women and crude Korean men. Excellent ensemble cast.

This is a time capsule of sorts as it depicts a pregnant South Korean woman, rare these days (that is in 2024) when the birthrate in that country is 0.72 (well below the replacement fertility rate). Also features Huppert literally bleating like a goat, so there's that.

Viewed March 6, 2017. I guess the description "deceptively low-key" applies to just about everything Hong Sang-soo does, but there's no way around it here - watch as Isabelle Huppert's breezy vacation comedy morphs into a complex study of people and their resistance to change, their inability to course-correct, their captivity to their flaws. The best moment: two umbrellas open in unison.

A difficult film to enjoy with out some knowledge of what to look for, but does include some universal truths as well as much that is lost in translation.

All of Hong's usual trademarks are in place: the Rohmer-isms, the gimmicky formal device, the zooms... It's completely satisfying for what it is, but i will say that he's one of the few filmmakers who seems to aesthetically develop in reverse.

The film really succeeds on Huppert's gentle, graceful performance. Even in scenes where she tries awkwardly to help someone understand what she means by “lighthouse,” there is a pleasant lack of urgency in her delivery, and her confident acting serves the other actors well as they revolve around her and respond to her. At her most appealing, she is a glowing, laughing presence among friends, believably magnetic among others, and someone impossible to look away from in a most enjoyable

The elliptical narrative is beautifully crafted, making for a film that is both heavily steeped in realism and simultaneously surreal and symbolic.

I am not sure I really understand what the author was trying to convey. As another user mentioned, it feels like there is something more relevant than what appears to be a film about destiny and randomness of the universe. Something I would say reminscent not of Woody Allen at all, more of "Sliding Doors." Overall, not so well acted and the theme for me got a little tiring

A delightful piece of essay film/romcom in which the multiple stories about this french woman called Anne are being written as we see the scenes on screen. While this is Sang-soo's well-known collection of jokes and funny situations about filmmakers wandering about love and drinking like it's their last day on earth, In another country registers a powerful chronicle about the possibilities of the writing of a script -- like strangers talking in an universal but mere utilitary language.
