Look, i mean obviously i understand that everyone has to start somewhere, but this sort of feels like something i could have made (although of course i didn't, and to be fair Alex Perry Ross has a lot more to show for himself than i do, a few lo-fi pop EPs on cassette labels aside, yay me?). Basically it seems like some friends read Gravity's Rainbow, got high, and shot a movie in the woods. It has it's moments (the parts with Kate Lyn Sheil, mostly) but it should have probably been a short.

For a movie that's just over an hour it sure does drag. I agree mostly with what JakeAesthete said except for me that makes it more of a positive. Eugene Mirman as the squid was great.

If The Color Wheel is going after all of American independent cinema, then maybe this is Perry going after Swanberg? A psuedo-tribute to Gravity's Rainbow about a guy finding rockets? Yeah, basically a movie about boners, which would be a sharp enough critique of Swanberg's self-indulgent career. If nothing else, it's absolutely unique. No one's achieved something so hallucinatory with so few resources. It does kind of drag, though.

If a movie can't convince you of its world, then it mostly fails, right? There was a second when I almost bought it, and it takes place about 50 minutes in when Tyrone (played by Riley O'Bryan) has a long conversation with Katje (played by Kate Lyn Sheil, arguably the only one that displays a talent for acting in this movie), but other than that, Impolex is a cheap retreading of elements from Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow. Unenjoyable and amateurish.
