I'm Totally Fine

Interesting way to frame working through the grief of loss. I have a standoffishness that comes with blank characters seeing society for what it is (Swiss Army Man, Poor Things) without engrained moral or societal queues to limit their framing. This is a neat exercise as long as it is asking questions about why we see things the way we do versus condemning the established norms without realistic application even possible. Getting out of my head, this is fun enough, Jilian very likable. Movies!

As far as low-budget movies built around intimate relationship go this one still exhibits a lot of the flaws that usually accompany them, but at the same time everything is just so much better. Bell and Morales are simply terrific. Their performances combined with the surprisingly grounded writing, and occasionally stylish cinematography elevate what could have easily been a very hokey and contrived movie. Yes I wish it was fleshed out more, but it's still a funny and emotionally prescient film.

Bell & Morales are great! I'm Totally Fine is part catharsis, part quirky comedy with a melancholic tone that works surprisingly well. At under 90 minutes the film doesn't overstay its welcome, while being relatable, funny and moving throughout. Also using Chop Suey on the soundtrack wins a few extra points.

Different kind of movie, dealing with a familiar concept in a strange way, but I enjoyed it. I've always been a fan of Natalie Morales, and she works well with Jillian Bell here.
