Felt too dull for its intriguing premise.

I wasn't either, but that's because the plot isn't. Kids movies that aren't for kids either need to teach me how to laugh and love, or make me wonder if kids are going to rise up and kill me. This one did neither.

Eerie at first, but as the plot is revealed, unfortunately the tension wanes and becomes ever so slightly more preposterous.

I couldn't take my eyes away from this film. I never felt so geniunely concerned for all of the characters.

Beautifully shot, but not very engagingly told. The character's behaviors often don't make much sense and are way more often than not based on plot convenience rather than drawing believable or relatable characters. So you're left with either people who do really dumb or randomly things a lot or constant breaking of the fourth wall. The ending takes the cake, though. Without it this would 9-10 points more for me.

Well, this is pretty brilliant movie from Salvatores. The crime through the eyes of innocent child. The beginning is creepy: abandoned house and adventures mind of a child. Film keeps viewers at the edge of seats throughout it's 97 minutes.

It just a little too long and in some parts, anything is happening.

"He's just a kid..." I found myself curiously thinking about Michele (Giuseppe Cristiano) as he continued to be faced with graver challenges. The more time that passed, the more I realized that this statement was wrong though. He was not "just" a kid. Niccolo Ammaniti (screenwriter) and Gabriele Salvatores (director) combined to create a 10 year old boy with immense depth. Even when it's subtle, confined to Michele's facial expressions, that same depth - that same care - can be felt.

What comes to mind right now is my thought that perhaps this is the movie Guillermo Del Toro was going for with Pan's Labyrinth, a story of a young child with a penchant for games and fantasy who is ennobled by how they interact with the dark, twisted, dangerous adult world that functions as a backdrop. But Gabriele Salvatores' film unfolds that adult world from the naïve point of view of the child rather than striving for equally balanced screen time for both perspective realms.

Gorgeous visuals. Beautiful music. Captures the world of children, through their eyes - truthfully and beautifully. Pleasure to watch.

Interesting, intelligent use of perspective; seeing this movie through a child's eyes enhances the sense of hopelessness and threat

Very well executed story of a young 10 year old boy who grow up to realize how deceiving the world of adults is. The leading child leads could be better choosen, but the use of nature is interesting. Despite animals are also an important part of the story, they could be used less underlining.

Salvatores' coming-of-age gem is moody, picturesque and pretty damn wonderful.

They botched the ending. It should have been over after the screen first turned black. Apart from that excellent pacing and mood.
