Il Mestiere delle armi

I really have no idea how to rate this. Olmi's movies always had this matter-of-factness to them, but I never had trouble relating to the characters portrayed. This 16th century war drama is just so dry most of the time, and so focused on political intrigue and war strategy to the exclusion of other things, I found it a very difficult watching experience. Then again, there's something charming about its stubborn bleak historicity.

Took me a while to tune into it's wavelength, it has a certain arms-length melancholy to it's approach, that's quite rare. I could definitely see myself revisiting it later and appreciating it more.
