This is probably the only time I believe Chloe Grace Moretz wad the wrong casting choice. She just was not believable and often felt forced. The source material and the emotional scenes were definitely there for the taking. It felt too over bearing with the will or she wont she and the whole why she should or why she shouldn't. It never really felt whole because of her ghost just hanging out during what should have been powerful scenes from the perspective of other characters.

Chloë Grace Moretz is the highlight of this movie. A bit too beautiful for such a young girl. She is expressive & eloquent. Some of the story is exceptionally sweet, especially the parts about her passion with the Cello. The production quality is excellent as is the music & sound. Then there is the accident, and from that moment, the movie takes a left turn with stupid out of body. Some of the dialog was cumbersome & awkward, but there are some cute flashback scenes. A bit melodramatic at times

At first this film really annoyed me, the characters, the writing and the acting were all so forced and terrible. But slightly before the halfway mark (I think) it either got a little better or I felt a bit more into it. There is a lot of illogical stuff throughout the entire film, coupled with bad dialogue, frustrating characters/decisions there is actually very little reason to see this film unless you're part of the target audience. But even though it's bad, at least it (mostly) isn't boring.

The ghost element did not bring anything new for the story. Just gimmick. The plot without ghosts did not serve anything brilliance either.

Stacy Keach and not much else. Some really strong moments, but far too scatterbrained to be considered "good." Given a rewrite and a better use of the hospital stuff, this could've actually been great.

"Everyone clear the room, my daughter's vacuous relationship has hit the skids again." Pretentious, juvenile drama may appeal to teenagers who thrive on fantasies of self-involvement, but presenting the 'crisis' this self-centered brat faces in the context of a gruesome family tragedy is appallingly tasteless to say the least. The performers do their best, and Moretz has proved in other films that she has considerable talent, but they are all hamstrung by the sappy, manipulative material.

Time for a drinking game: each time an emotion isn't forced on you by melancholic hipsters with guitars, take a shot! That way you'll learn what a "sobering experience" means.

A teenage girl tells the relatively uninteresting story of her relatively uninteresting life at length, with a little supernatural peppering.

I didn't hate this as much as I thought. The story can be touching, when not cliche, and Chloe Grace Mortez is a diamond in the ruff in terms of acting. There are some serious plot holes too, but honestly this wasn't bad for a chick flick. I hd fun.

Teen angst at its worst. A couple of characters are decent but that's it.

Nothing that would encourage me to stay!! The flick is rich in textures and performances, but lacks heavily in emotions. The way it's been written, I could care less if Mia stayed or left. Oh, but I did stay till the end of the movie waiting for some tear-jerker or maybe uplifting moments. Apparently, in vain. Having said that, at least it's merciful enough to not bore me beyond hell.

This is actually just another teen movie, but with a pinch of seriousness, spirituality, a good soundtrack and Stacy Keach. I'm a sucker for these elements... - Good

Watch Chloe's ghost eerily creep up on people who think they're having a private moment. Seriously though, it's very sappy. However, I've always maintained that there's nothing wrong with a tearjerker and I'm not sure why melodrama is seen as bad by default for some people. There is some hokey stuff scattered throughout, and the spirit stuff is a little silly a times, but it's pretty good at what it does. Chloe is instantly likeable and god damn that crushing scene with Keach.

Genç kiz, anne- baba, çello, gitar, klasik müzik , ergenlerin aski, romantik, rock müzik, trafik kazasi, yogun bakim, ortalarda dolanan ruh (cennet gibi)... Bunaltti. Sadece yogun bakimin son sahneleri duyguluydu. gerisi bos. Film iki zzamanli ileriliyor. Hastane de ve hastaneye kadar kizin hayatindaki degisikler.

It's a simplistic and juvenile worldview, to be sure. Immoral, too. But, unfortunately, it's one that YA literature and teen romance movies promulgate all too often. Within that context, the film presents Adam as being attentively self-sacrificial, and indeed he is ... except when it comes to exercising restraint in the areas of libido and libation. Those are no small issues, of course. And so faster than cupid can roundhouse a passing teenager (plugged.com)

I liked the simple plot with the few twists in it, overall I (and I didn't expect me to say this about a film full of teenagers) liked the acting and I liked the way they told the story, the structure. It's way to melodramatic but it worked for me and however we get dragged into a cheesy plot full of teenage problems, we stay amused.

What could've proved syrupy and mawkish is grounded by a number of well-drawn characters and performances (Moretz and Keach deserve all of the superlatives) and a neat structure that genuinely enhances our understanding. Heart-on-sleeve melodrama that works pretty well.

Heavily on the sappy side, but I liked it. Great acting from Stacy Keach and Chloë Grace Moretz, and one of the better family dynamics from any movie centering on a teenager that I can remember.

Stacy Keach for days. With such a small part time-wise, his performance resonates at a far superior level. I should point out that nobody in the movie was out-and-out BAD (most everyone could be considered alright-to-good), and despite my well-documented distaste for teenage dialogue/situations, this flick felt mostly genuine despite its melodrama and otherworldly-ness. There IS a market for this movie... it just might not be you specifically. It's worth taking a look at, but, tread carefully.

If you can get past all of the repetition and focus on the 25 minutes of good filmmaking, you might have a chance at enjoying If I Stay. But that's a lot of fat you have to sit through, and there are definitely better ways to spend your time. Tearjerkers don't work when they expect you to cry about tiny problems that are made to seem important because they're repeated ad nauseam. If I Stay attempts to make you cry by doing exactly this, and it doesn't succeed because of this technique.

A decent teen melodrama that is held together by a strong performance by its young star. The two storylines feel like oddly different films. The tear-jerking "youth in a coma" storyline is overwrought and cheesy, while the teen romance flashbacks feel genuine and real. It is the music-themed love story that makes the film watchable, and Moretz gives her all. It's just a shame that the supernatural hospital scenes feel so out of place. I wanted to like this movie more than I did.
