Steve Coogan and Paul Rudd star as Erasmus and Paul, a bickering gay couple whose life is turned inside out when a ten-year old boy shows up at their door claiming to be Erasmus' grandson. Neither Paul, nor Erasmus, are ready to give up their extravagant lifestyles to be parents, but maybe this little kid has thing or two to teach them about the value of family. (imdb)

How can you NOT love a movie where a kid tells his elementary school class words you should never use around gay people, like "'faggot'. And you should NEVER say 'cocksucker'. And never, EVER say 'buttfucker'!"? Steve Coogan makes a great bitchy queen. And I want that house.

Bizarrely old fashioned comedy feels like no time has passed since the 1970s; never really goes anywhere or does anything with its same-sex spin on 3 MEN AND A BABY, presenting safe, mild gags which seem to push against societal norms which don't really exist anymore. Coogan and Rudd do their best, but they are saddled with characters who are superficial stereotypes. A disappointment from the usually more cutting edge writer-director Fleming.

I was surprised to like this as much as I did. Some clever writing and good performances made it amusing and engaging. It succeeds in turning the art of parenting on its head. It displays an unusual recipe for happiness with a unique nontraditional relationship. The odd characters seemed like they could be real people, which added to the fun.

I would've thought Coogan gets to choose his projects at this stage. Ah, well. The corniest ever PC ending credits collage, thought. An unrightfully neglected category.

Keeping up with my own tradition: I love seeing Rudd regardless. With that out of the way, I didn't much care for this. I found it a little boring and unfunny for most of it, though there were a couple good jokes. By the time it kicked it up a notch and got good it was near the end of the movie so it can't really quite save itself. Also, the ending was incredibly rushed. It's not the worst thing to watch if you're bored but I still wouldn't recommend it because it just felt so inconsequential.
