Ich lebe für Dich

Before fucking-off to Hollywood for quarter of a century, William Dieterle could be seen directing himself in German pictures. Absolutely competent even then, the only real problem here is the length being too excessive for what there is to tell. Some nice moments sprinkled around, everything from snowy moments to wild indoor parties, it's unpredictable in what it wasn't to show you. But it's also too conventional in choice of story, with the pacing being highly uneven.
