Listened to the Joe Bob Briggs commentary which is an interesting defense of the film against the critical gang rape it received. And I already can't write this review without being offensive. His analysis is an outstanding reminder of the lunacy I see in suggesting 2017's Revenge is somehow different. I don't think anything here is being glorified, but that sure doesn't make it fun to watch. Recommended only to those that want to tolerate brutality at its worst, like Dane Cook fans.

Stupid. Bad acting, major plot holes, no tension or suspense, absurd characterization, idiotic dialogue... and given its reputation, not especially disturbing or gory. Most of the time it's just boring, and otherwise simply laughable.

One of the most notorious rape/revenge flicks, unfairly demonized. Most similar films gloss over the sexual violence and present big, cathartic revenge setpieces. ISOYG not only shows the assault in all its hideousness, it also doesn't shy away from the brutal aftermath, as the bloodied and shaken victim tries in vain to return to a safe haven. She gets her revenge, but it ultimately seems anticlimactic in a very realistic way. Tough to watch, but worth a look.

For a film that's afaik talked about exclusively as egregiously offensive or as feminist and revolutionary [and with almost as intrinsically political a premise possible], this was remarkably empty. It made sense tho' after watching the DVD supplemental interview with Zarchi in which he seems to be, not so much malicious or incompetent, as a craftsman with no genuine directoral vision or politics. Some admirable choices in terms of craft, but totally meaningless and unremarkable in so many ways.

A lot of time was spent on multiple gang rape scenes and not enough time was spent on the revenge parts. Acting performances, especially from the men, were horrendous. Overall, it is poorly made and almost all of it was quite tedious. Some decent nudity. The story was not terrible, though lacking in some creativity, however this movie is ruined by absolutely abysmal directing.

I'm having a hard time figuring out my feelings on this film. On one hand the rape is relentlessly brutal, detailed, and long (long as in 30 minutes). But it's also depicted as disgusting and repugnant and Jennifer is a sympathetic figure. It's really hard to say where it falls. It's certainly not empowering, even with the revenge, but it doesn't trivialize either. I'd like to hear some people's opinions on this one.

Despite the "shocking" content, nothing here is very interesting. It's also mercilessly illogical; why doesn't she call the police? Why does she stay at the house after the rape? Why would she hand her gun to the rapist? Why would she purposefully ALLOW the guy who raped her to have sex with her again? This is a tedious, asinine, boring exercise in pointless violence that doesn't come close to living up to its infamous reputation. What a let down.

Well made rape-revenge horror film that evidently proves a talented director is behind the camera, and some of the acting is quite good as well. I want to like this film more, but it's plagued by some bullshit, like the god-awful nerdy character, who plays like a cross between Jerry Lewis and Sheldon amongst the other characters who are more grounded in reality, and there are just some stupid moments (mainly with the villains) towards the end. Still worth putting on for the family at Halloween.

Just to be clear, my low rating is not based on moral outrage; it is based on the fact that I grew so bored watching this padded, bloated film that I was fighting to stay awake. Scenes and individual shots drag so long that the film could be reedited into 42-minute TV drama length without losing a single plot or character detail.

That retard guy hangs out with SOME BAD APPLES. Oh and this is one of the dumbest movies I've seen in awhile, everyone is so damn CASUAL in the last 40 minutes. For a movie about a brutal rape it sure was nutty, oh and apparently if you throw something bloody on fire it'll glow red because blood is red and it what :/

One of the most infamous titles of all time, this no-frills revenge melodrama would've sunk without a trace had not a couple of high-minded critics condemned it to high heaven on TV, thus creating a ready-made army of geeky curiosity seekers. Totally inept.

Has some serious shock factor, but other than that bad writing, bad acting, bad directing. I do have to say that when she actually kills those three guys it's pretty sweet. But it's only three guys and not a whole lot of content.

Tasteless and hyperexploitative. At a certain point within the first 40 minutes or so you realize that the story is so threadbare that they've relied on cheap shocks that go on for so long that they become dull and pointless.

This B-movie nod to Bergman's Virgin Spring is a real darling of mine. I find the brutal realism of the rape scenes refreshing, as normal hollywood fare's tendency to strategically censor and embelish strikes me as obnoxious. There is also symbolism and psychological subtlety here for anyone willing to notice.

Top badass moment? I’ve just come off the phone after a long call to Trading Standards, to complain there wasn’t any spitting or any graves in this film. When I see graves and fast moving saliva advertised I expect to get them, not some nonsense about a writer who spends all her time in a hammock sunbathing or messing about in boats. But it does make you think twice about shopping online for groceries. "Your driver's name is Matthew...." Er, no thanks. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

A hideous, hugely offensive, badly made, steaming pile of movie manure, that, most offensively of all, tries to sell itself as a feminist piece. If you've not seen it, believe me, a feminist piece is the very last thing that this horrible film is. In my opinion, this is one of the top two worst movies ever made. The only film that is more awful than this is an utterly horrid offering called A Serbian Film. Yes, this film is only out done for repugnance by that.

Poorly written, poorly acted, poorly shot, and INCREDIBLY poorly edited (every scene lingers twice as long as necessary, including the most mundane moments in a movie full of them). I'm beyond the capacity to be morally outraged by art, so whatever - but that only serves to make this boring on top of everything. The only scene to provoke a reaction was the bath scene. Watch Straw Dogs if you want a rape-revenge movie, Deliverance or The Texas Chain Saw Massacre if you want hillbilly violence.

We could lose about 1/3rd off each shot and still have the same film really. The dialogue recording is awful, as if the actors are talking into tin cans. The acting is non-existent, shot selection is often 1 or 2 per scene, so get used to that opening composition. Before and after the harmonica scene is terrible, but the idea he didn't stop playing is the only sign the men aren't fuck crazed primates. The 2nd rape is the 2nd worst sex scene acting I've seen this week.

It's less viscerally disturbing than other films with its reputation, the production value (and hence the acting) is rather poor, and the pacing is a bit off-kilter, sometimes building an interesting tension, and other times unfortunately slow. But although I can't help but feel that shooting the rapists would have been an easier solution, I find this worth watching if only for the satisfaction of her revenge. "Suck it, bitch."

So that's why they called this genre exploitation... This is an utterly fucked up torture of a watch, and ultimately without any sort of artistic point. It's a simulated snuff film and while an important piece cinema, there is no utility whatsoever to be gained from watching this movie--not on the entertainment side, not on the intellectual side. No seriously, this is a film with about an hour of non-stop graphic rape.

A relentless, horrifying masterpiece. The eerie silences, the stillness and lack of music, how exhaustingly long the shots are, all strengthen the impact. Ignore the bleeding-heart white male critics or the jaded film geek morons who don't understand this movie, there's no glamourising violence against women or eroticism or 'fun' here, this is raw, angry feminist art. Camille Keaton is incredible.

“I CAN’T STOP THE BLEEDING!!” *shudder* – earns its iconic place for its near obsessive fixation on the main event(s) – no need to mess around with characterisations or motivations; just in and out with a minimum of fuss. The stomach churningly graphic violence is not as unbearable as expected because of Zarchi’s cold, clinical tone – right up to a finale devoid of any emotional payoff. Committed work from Keaton, and a nice eerie tone of foreboding, makes the technical credentials an easy pass.

I can see why this would be divisive; to really enjoy it, you have to be ok with the graphic sexual violence, the slow first half, the unintelligent, over-the-top second half, and the fact that it's not sleekly polished and modern. This is one of the better revenge/exploitation films I've seen. The acting is occasionally unrealistic, and the cinematography is a bit odd, but somehow it all works well together to create an immersive and suspenseful atmosphere. The surprises genuinely caught me off guard, and I liked that there was a level of complexity to the four guys, rather than portraying them as random brutes without a shred of humanity. This, combined with the slow pacing, makes the deaths quite satisfying.

Whether this is indeed a feminist statement (coming from a male director no less) is debatable, but what this movie indubitably proves to be is a respectable exploitation flick that stands above the general cesspool that makes up the majority of the genre. The acting is bitterly lacking but the action is often shocking, often cruel, and one thing that can be said is that this is far from a forgettable picture. Approach at your own risk.

I can understand its status as iconic in the field of exploitation films, but it does spectacularly fizzle out about 80% of the way through the film, which shows the weaknesses of the filmmaking process in general behind the film. One of the few films I would say that needed a remake, if a film about a brutal rape and its afternmath deserves a remake.
