A template for future tv sitcoms: mining all the jokes possible from a situation's premise. As such, the best parts are in the middle section where the jokes come from a madcap energy of the audience knowing information the characters don't. Like in Sullivan's Travels Lake is good. But the picture could've used a stronger villain & world-building. Still it gives the crowd the rom-com they're looking for, with a commentary on the power of love. I just wish the title didn't spoil the ending.

"Oh boy, I really hope that 43-year old man ends up marrying that 19-year old woman!" Also, the title of this film describes every man's stand-up comedy act until 2004.

A delightful and quaint supernatural comedy. This is basically cinematic candy; low-stakes, witty, whimsical and full of magic. Clair has some serious visual tricks up his sleeve, and Veronica Lake is adorable.

A great surprise. Comedy often doesn't age well & although I never laughed out loud, the screwball elements - a couple of which have an unexpectedly dark tinge for the period - kept me smiling throughout. The best part however has to be the story itself which is entertainingly unpredictable. You can guess the ending but not how they get there.

Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would for a fantasy/romantic comedy from 1942. Veronica Lake is wonderful and so is Fredric March. It's got plenty of magical and whimsical touches thanks to René Clair. Despite its age, it's much more enjoyable and fun to watch than the (mostly) garbage romantic comedies of today.

A fair screwball comedy. Lake is beautiful to watch, but at times it seems like she's not sure what to do with her lines. I do wish we had more of the original wife-to-be, as she was usually the setup for most of the funniest lines. Cute, even if generally forgettable.

The patriarchy of Hollywood writ large, in a charming package so the spoonful of medicine goes down in the most delightful way.

Yeah, I think anyone would marry a witch like Veronica Lake. I was certainly under the spell! Wonderfully light and funny courtship even someone hating rom-coms would love! If not for the romance, then for the wicked father-in-law and his naughtiness.

A cute slapstick comedy. Don't have much else to say about it.

Veronica Lake is entrancing, as always, and the story's rather fun if lightweight. Some nice visual flair from Clair at times as well.

***The perfect movie to watch on Halloween, when day creep into night*** An ancient witch's curse has haunted and tormented the Wooley family for centuries, and no one knows it better than the ambitious politician Wallace, who is currently embarking on a major campaign as the sins of the past catch up with a descendant once again. Cheerful comedy with nice roles for Frederic March and the sweet Veronica Lake

One of those weird old movies in which the easy romance and comedy are the main thing and not much mind is paid towards the fact that the main charactrer(s) are really flighty assholes. You need to take it with a grain of salt and as a product of its time. Having said that, Veronica Lake owns the movie by being a total vixen and everyone else is there just for the scenery. It's funny and relaxed, with some interesting visual effects. It's just a silly little romp and I appreciate it as such.

Cute and inoffensive little movie. Couldn't help but think that the whole "love is greater than witchcraft message" might have been aided if the love hadn't literally been caused by witchcraft. A couple of the scenes could play in a Fatal Attraction-like thriller if it wasn't being handled as a light comedy. More smiles than laughs on the comedy end. Veronica Lake is beautiful. Decent way to spent a little over an hour.

Sweet, both romantic and provocative screwball revenge comedy about marriage and politics, full of amusing practical effects - broom scenes, yes, but also flying taxi, spirits hanging around as smoke - and just inspired moments of grace - even newborn babies and a parrot support Wooley for governor after the entire state's been bewitched, the politics' weird inner mechanisms that still resonate today. There is no better vengeance than happiness - specially with you have one last spell to spare.

bloody hell. not that i was an enormous fan of ENTR'ACTE to begin with, but clearly some sort of evil wizardry was inflicted upon rené clair some time between 1924 and 1942.

Clair'in şahane numaralarıyla alabildiğine lezzetlenmiş, hala taze kalmayı başarmış bir romantik komedi. Türe inancım tazelendi. He tabii bir de Veronica Lake...

A curious, old-fashioned comedy- that must have been fun at the time and still is pretty enjoyable.

Veronica Lake is dazzling, Frederic March is charming and Rene Clair does interesting things with the medium at times. A fun romp, candy bar type fluff.
