Surprisingly touching and offbeat flick.

Ben Lyon might be a fairly bland headliner, he still worked hard to get his role over. One of the best performances I've seen of him. Here Lyon's is a struggling news paper reporter looking for a scoop. His main target is smuggler Eli Kirk played by the the great Ernest Torrence in his final role before dying. Claudette Colbert was really looking picturesque and sensual. The torture rack scene where Colbert got tied up all helpless so Lyon could steal kiss after kiss was kinky! Pre-code indeed!
