A fairly middle-of-the-road take on the "sentient AI taking over world" theme that, at times, swerves slightly out of the KILLALLHUMANS lane. That the motives driving our new robot overlords are based in their original directive--value human life above all else--was bleak, if not expected. The subtle commentary on religion and what it ultimately provides in a robot apocascape was also welcome. Damn... Did I write a normal review? Well, we can't have that. Fart. Balls. Twatmuncher. Okay. Better.

Spoiler: parable about a computationalist utilitarian quasi-eugenics in which apocalypse and reproductive technology form the background conditions for a species-restart, with AI as the god (between Kant and Bentham) who creates the world and then withdraws. Successfully manoeuvres the viewer through various phases of trust and uncertainty, ending up more interesting at the end than it seemed in the beginning, but filmed in that anonymous style that Netflix threatens to render ubiquitous.

Just one more example of the sleek, yet insufferably dull and unoriginal sci-fi flicks to bear the Netflix mark. It's hard for me to rate them so poorly since I'm such a sci-fi lover. I'd be pleading Netflix to stop making movies altogether, but I think the heart is in the right place, but maybe just be a little more...um, better.

A quaint parent themed Sci-Fi cliche so shallow that it could take place in any of a number of much better defined movie universes. Clara Rugaard is the only redeeming factor here, mainly because she's Danish. *Raises clenched fist in the air*

A sign of good writing is making things that wouldn't normally make sense, make sense in a movies universe. In a universe where there's an all seeing AI, I can believe that things happen without her noticing. The film manages to bring you into that atmospehere, with good acting and decent direction, it is a good watch and a decent sci-fi, thriller.

It starts out with a nice premise and develops into a great little guessing game. It's pretty simple and economic, but it's also competent and generally well-executed.

Flat and dull sci-fi drama is competently made and performed, but its themes of sentient AI leading to a human apocalypse are too familiar from so many other similar (and better) films; Green's screenplay is full of half-formed and unexplored ideas, and Byrne's "Mother" is a clunky and uninteresting pro/antagonist. Swank and Rugaard do their best, but neither character is especially interesting or compelling.

Nature or nurture? Eugenics and human evolution? The dangers of AI directives? Mother-daughter bond? Although the film flirts with some of those subjects, there's a clear lack of aim and they are never fully explored. The film's shallowness reflects on the pacing and a certain hesitation to move the plot onwards. All culminates in a weird conclusion that is incapable of wrapping all the subjects with which the film deals. It begins as a promising sci-fi, but never truly delivers.

An interesting SciFi movie thriller that I would prefer had more content. Still it's fairly interesting and what they created in a modest budget is really impressive. A little more human drama and philosophical conundrums would have made it excellent, but there is very little of that.

Paperclip Maximiser: The Movie. Although it's well-crafted, it's lacking in something to say, which makes the whole thing feel empty. Would I watch this again? Nah. But if you're looking for something that fills a Portal-cum-Moon-shaped hole, there are worse fillers.

This succeeds for me because it was an unexpectedly well made and constructed movie. While it might not be entirely original, it still plays the "how much can we trust A.I." angle really well. So much so that they manage to keep the mystery throughout the film and flips it on its head to leave you with something to think about, long after the film has ended. It has its flaws, but it certainly deserves a look.

A refreshing original sci fi story that's easy enough to follow with an ending that works. More of this please, Netflix!

The story is not uninteresting but most of it doesn't make any sense, does it? It's also very politically loaded and finds its exact analysis in Curtis' 'the Century of Self'.

Decent sci-fi flick. Well produced and a very good performance by Clara Rugaard. It has some nice ideas and is thought provoking to an extent, though ultimately I think it could have been more impactful and philosophical. Worth a watch for lovers of the more serious sci-fi.

*Chef Ramsay voice* Finally, some good fucking sci-fi. Netflix has been throwing out trash sci-fi for years so it's a relief to finally get something like this. Clara Rugaard is amazing in this film, besting Hilary Swank (who does a good job) without even trying. Rose Byrne is also good as mother, although the movement of the robot is kinda a big part of the character. The film builds tension well and keeps the action for important moments.

I Am Mother succeeds solely on its final act, which while flawed manages to deliver on the sci-fi premise with a twist that, while not unpredictable, is believable given what the movie presents. The film looks great; with stark landscape shots, the futuristically lit bunker and colour pallet mediated by the costumes. Hawker's movement as Mother is great, while Byrne's voice-work is good, though non-conventional as it's unprocessed and human-like. Swank was okay, but Rugaard did a great job.

Post apokaliptik fantastik film.

A well done sci-fi that posits moral questions and doesn't completely miss the mark. The effects are good, the acting is decent, and the ending didn't ruin it like is so often the case.

First; let's talk about the twist. I thought it would be totally different before, understanding how it is disappointed me but it's good but real twist is so much better. There's no such perfect surprises but it's already efficient that way. Big applause to Rose Byrne's voice, I never thought her voice would fit as a robot. Throughout the movie, I questioned myself over and over again. As "mother" said; there's no wrong answers.

I love sci-fi books but generally loathe sci-fi films, because the cast rarely act like real people. The beauty of Mother is that all three do! That might be a trifle odd as they are growing up more or less alone, but it was refreshing. Was Mother creating a situation with the other woman to force Daughter into becoming a mother? Assuming that Mother was not malign and did have the interests of humanity at heart, of course. Who knows? the beauty of adult sci-fi is the meaning is up to you.

Its hard not to see this as a sort of inversion of Ex Machina, with the sort of two humans and one robot guessing game dynamic. This is not as good as Ex Machina, but it is an interesting variation on the theme.

This Australian produced sci-fi flick is built out of the parts of other films ... most notably "Ex Machina" and the Terminator series ... but manages to forge it's own identity by going places that none of the other films go. It's difficult to say exactly where without spoiling some critical mid-film twists, but I found this one to be quite compelling.

The film looked and was mainly the usual sci-fi flick with a mechanical robot with a human being. The first half was almost boring. But the second half gave a needed push and the very last moments changed everything. Scenes were totally Clara Rugaard's playground. She was the salt of the story. And the ending crowned well written plot nicely.

I Am Mother is a superbly produced, superbly acted, well-written and suspenseful movie which disappoints by not actually making much sense. But I did enjoy most of it, so I guess I'll have to recommend it.
