Hungry Hearts

A pretty impressive merger of genres, that echoes Rosemary's Baby, but keeps its drama and subsequent tension founded in reality, and carried by two great performances from the leads. Aesthetically it does unfortunately has a somewhat distracting film school vibe, and the protagonist's old mother reminded me of Lisa's mother from The Room, but still a worthwhile little thriller.

Though it's impossible to take your eyes off both Rohrwacher and Driver in this anxiety-inducing thriller, it's ultimately not quite clear what Costanzo is trying to say. Also, special shout-out for an expert use of a REAL infant (I'm looking at you, Clint Eastwood and American Sniper).

If this would only be a lot shorter...

So, well... Driver is a nice guy, but starving kids are less nice?! If I want to see horror, where the characters behaviors or circumstances are an exaggeration of life, I watch 'The Babadook' or 'We need to talk about Kevin'. But because the emotional soil of this movie is so constructed and un-woven with its psychological core, that I only can say: Nice try.
