Mumblecore meets bromance, arguably as part of a wave of new American realism. Even though it's heavily based on dialogue, the honest performances come off as wholly naturalistic. The casting is perfect. Action and character melt into one, and what initially seems a one-note high concept gains commendable depth. I was bemused throughout; Leonard (of BWP-"fame") is funny. Mostly, the humour derives from awkwardness - not disgust - so rather than gross-out nonsense, this becomes an engrossing gem.

This could have aged really poorly, and, frankly, some of it does. The core of this mumble-core comedy is a pretty potent look at the expectations we put on ourselves and how these can really wreck havoc. Lynn Shelton is always able to give dialogue that feels so real.

I couldn't believe how much I liked this movie. All I knew about it was that it was called Humpday and the cover featured two guys in their underwear. My expectations were at rock bottom. But it turned out to be a gripping and interesting story about male sexuality, held together with a naturalistic script and some great acting. Thoroughly entertaining all throughout.

Don't believe the hype. Not remotely "hilarious", this spends 90 mins trying to make an interesting, but absurdly unlikely, premise plausible, & succeeds - sort of. As a writer Lynn Shelton pulls off a decent impression of a hipster male, but never really captures true "guyness" as the 2 men here r a little 2 huggy, chatty & ok w/ sharing vulnerablity. Women might like 2 think straight guys could go this far, but they won't. Still, it holds ur attention in a will-they-or-won't-they kind of way.

This film is a talkie. But every single minute had me riveted. And the dialogue was so perfect it felt like a documentary, not a feature film.

Great. This movie really does take bromance to a totally different dimension. Its got a unique idea, with great performances all around, shot in a very personal manner, flawless execution. Considering the subject matter, it never gets too uncomfortable, kept me smiling throughout with a few LOL moments. Definitely worth a watch.

Entertaining mumblecore movie with great performances by both leads. An entertaining twist on the Apatow formula.

I guess the actors have felt awkward doing this movie, just their characters did about their strange project (the one who is doing the "art porn movie" in the movie is the director and writer of the film). This might partly be what makes it feel authentic. It's a It true as some say that it never gives the answer to "why" but to me it doesnt matter.

Fun examination of masculinity that still never quite gets past that exasperated "WHY?"

Certainly not the most polished film, not even among its mumblecore ilk. However, it's one of the rare explorations of straight male sexuality and the bond between men. Seeing them try to think straight is pretty entertaining.

It's a decent relationship dramedy, there is good chemistry on screen. The whole thing just lacks spark, it doesn't have much to say, and is forgettable.

I consider myself quite an open-minded person but I found this film to be very chalenging at times (to the point where I started to question the authencity of the two male characters). Still, I think the performances were very good and Lynn Shelton, yet again, surprised me for creating an intimate but also inviting atmosphere.

Affable and well-acted (Mark Duplass is always so natural!), but ultimately a bit lightweight. It had a few good scenes, the best being the basketball fight and the wife's reaction when she finds out, whereas the finale was inevitably a bit anticlimactic. But the film didn't seem to have many more scenes than that. I guess it was short and to-the-point. Also a little short on ideas or real character development perhaps.

May not be the single best movie I've seen so far this year--though it's certainly a contender for the title--but it's without doubt the most surprising.

A somewhat funny observation about male-pride and defending of whatever stupidity that once seemed clever or right. *Preview*: #12#, exp-3*, story, reviews, writer-director Shelton/1, M.Duplass/4, R2.

The following point kept me at a distance from this film: straight people have gay sex on film all the time. It's sad and reprehensible. It's not art. This is *almost* addressed 85 minutes into the movie, but not to my satisfaction. If I set this point aside, the rest of the film I found uncomfortable in the most unsatisfying way. I wanted to like this movie, but I couldn't.

There are a lot of layers at work here. It's classified as a comedy but that doesn't really do it justice. It's an honest look at a strange situation between friends who have not only lost touch with each other but with themselves. Duplass is especially fantastic as the seemingly straight-laced, soon to be family man who realizes a side of himself that strays from expectations. It's uncomfortable at times but it's also tender. Great film.

It has some good dialogues, but it is way too weird for me.

Loved the realistic dialogue, but the story wasn't very entertaining or filled with human wisdom. Kind of a letdown.

Humpday typifies the low-level indie film where characters talk out silly ideas they don't believe in anyway, just the pop confusion in their heads.

One of the best mumblecore movies I've seen. The awkwardness of some scenes had me alternately cringing while watching through my fingers and howling with laughter. The raw, emotionally unguarded performances actually manage to make the petty bullshit of sheltered middle-class suburbanites compelling.

Some funny moments, but not quite daring. Some scenes are boring and utterly forgettable. Would make a nice short movie. Watch Old Joy and Shortbus instead.
