How to Eat Your Watermelon in White Company (and Enjoy It)

A frustrating missed opportunity in many ways – purports to get inside the head and style of Van Peebles, but never moves beyond the superficial; starts with a stuttering, awkwardly paced look at his early life, before a not particularly edifying wander through highlights of his filmography. All too brief interview segments with Van Peebles show flashes of his fire, but there’s really not enough meat on the bones of this profile to sustain a feature length subject.
