Ocean's Oil'even. vital, confident, smart, thrilling, taut, and most-of-all – urgent.

This movie, unlike so many before it, finds a way to be an activist film without succumbing to fatalism or cringe. It manages being so refreshing with one simple trick; just show it. Show activism being done in a thrilling, realistic manner with fundamentally decent people. A different movie would be compelled to complicate the story: Morally muddy the protagonists and/or introduce ambivalence. This crew posits that just showing unadorned activism is provocative enough. And they were right.

I enjoy thrillers like this because they're militant and just go for it. Obviously, if you are critical of this subject matter you will dislike this, but I think it's fairly tense. I had a bit of a tough time really connecting to these characters so when shit went down I felt a little cold, but I think the film is put together well. It would have been nice to see a little more depth in the politics.

Interesting story, terrible execution. Way too Netflixy. Very particular selection of the cast(One person from each possible race, etc.), incredibly political correct conversations,... It's a good thriller, keeping you on the edge at times, but nothing more than that.

A lean, masterfully executed eco-thriller that's as gripping as it is gutsy. Has its ideological cake and eats it too, but what unabashedly political movie doesn't? What matters is that you're dying to know the fates of these characters, despite being dropped in the middle of their stories, and regardless of your stance on carbon neutrality.

The heist structure plays well, including the flashbacks littered throughout the film. Smart, engaging editing decisions made throughout. The performances and economic screenplay keep the characters interesting and sympathetic despite how little we actually know about most of them even at the film’s end.

Urgent and effective, there's enough characterization and tension to recommend it.

Feels a bit too student film-y, both in narrative construction and execution. But good concept.

I kinda love that this is how Goldhaber follows up Cam; another movie about 20-somethings facing extinction, this time as a furious heist movie. The movie, much like the events in it, portrayed as a collaboration. But for all the character work and good structure, sometimes it feels just a little too... convenient? Maybe 50 years from now, this will look a bit like idealistic hippie movies look today. But I guess the makers will be happy to take that if there's still movies in 50 years.

I like what this movie was going for. It's tense, and overall a very solid production. I just think it's a little thin and feels somewhat incomplete. Could have easily been fleshed out to two hours. I especially would have liked to have seen more of the aftermath. I also don't exactly know what the takeaway is supposed to be message wise. Is the film really advocating we consider eco terrorism? But eh, whatever. Despite a few complaints it's still mostly well made and entertaining.

It had some good suspense and the characters were believable as climate zealots who shared a passion for extremist environmental protectionism. The backstory of characters would have been more effective before the story began. Instead they flashed snippets of characters’ life experiences througout and I didn’t care about the characters because of this poor investment. The extremism felt a little unnerving to me and left me unsettled.

This film felt too vague to really grip me. Interestingish but not quite 'there'. Different characters are focussed on at different times but there's no punchy plot, other than the obvious (what the title refers to). The whole debate over what constitutes terrorism & whether such acts can ever be at all 'worth it' for the impact of what happens, well, thats very much up for debate as ever. Its an interesting topic but I don't feel the film ultimately 'says' v much. An ok film I wouldnt recommend

I'm surprised something like this was allowed to be released. It really shows changing attitudes of the younger generations.

The word to describe this film is militant. It is an exploration of a militant perspective on the climate crisis. Notably, I don't think a lot of these characters even like each other. It comes through in the performances that these are people mostly brought together by personal morality rather than interpersonal connection. Can I say I was deeply moved by this? Not really, nor do I think it's among the best movies I've seen this year. But it does have a certain resonance that keeps it afloat.

Taking into consideration the strong direction and performances, as well as the limitations of the screenplay, "How to Blow Up a Pipeline" earns a 7 out of 10. While it may not be the most illuminating film on the subject of climate change and activism, it still provides an engaging and suspenseful viewing experience that raises important questions and offers a unique perspective on a pressing global issue.
