The killer in the basement is a terrifying creature but I was fully rooting for him, so they failed somewhere along the sympathy line.

Not my favorite Fulci, but certainly a enjoyable and goopy romp down in the basement. A dream-like plot highlighted by everyone yelling for Bob.

The most atrocious child dubbing I've heard in quite some time. Almost enough to make me turn off the film, honestly. You're telling me the mother couldn't open that hatch wider, but the kid could force his humongous fucking head through? I'm not buying it.

There are definitely some good ideas here, particularly in the ambiguous role played by the children - this is hinted at throughout, and consolidated by the Henry James quote at the end. However, the whole film is a mish-mash of poorly-resolved plotting and whatever the aim of the film was is entirely unclear by the time it has ended. Some nice Fulci gore is on show, but this is nowhere near as shocking on the dubbing job on the young blond lad. It's a stinker, but is curiously compelling.

If you go into a Fulci film expecting things like pacing, or a coherent plot, you are in for a bad time. But damn, those are some good gore effects.

There's a lot of different ideas premeating through House by the Cemetery, and while that seems like it should be a major slight against it (note: it is), they're all done fairly well. The haunted house, slasher, and zombie aspects are all very well done, on top of really good gore effects and a fun, creepy atmosphere. There's definitely still a lot to be desired here, with all the movie tries to do, but for the most part, it contains some pretty good execution.

Pretty nasty and oppressive even by Fulci's standards. Manages to avoid some of the more offensive qualities of his work while still delivering many shockingly tense scenes and an abundance of gore. Atmosphere is nice and dreamy at times and the story almost works well on some weird surreal level although it's undoubtably a nonsensical mess that takes forever to get going. Acting is unsurprisingly terrible but at least the dubbing is hilarious. Ania Pieroni's eyes always put a spell on me.

Did I dream this? No seriously, I'm not sure since I caught this as the fifth film in an all night horror marathon. It's entertaining but its edited like someone threw a jigsaw puzzle against the wall.

Like most of Fulci's films, it starts strong, heads to dullsville in the middle, and then has a memorably fucked up ending.

Another delirious Fulci fever dream, most notable for featuring one of the most ghoulish and unforgettable zombies in film history. Also worth noting that Catriona MacColl somehow turns in a worse acting performance here than in The Beyond, which is just mind-bending.

haha, not a good fulci film, mostly because the kid in the movie was annoying as hell, still it's worth a look.

Another tasty nightmare vision from the great Fulci. Disturbing and strange as likely to offend because of it's graphic gore as for it's lack of coherence.

Fulci's name is synonymous with drab story and poor acting, and that's all here. He likes it gory, but his abysmal effects tend to undermine whatever gruesomeness he tries to portray. For a change, though, this actually has an okay-looking bloodletting or two, and one murder in the first half of the movie I actually thought was quite effective.

I can't recall the last time I saw a movie this deficiently directed. Even taking into account the quirks of Italian filmmaking, this is just painful to watch. The bad panning, wrong framing, and unwise angles are all a lesson in how not to shoot a film. Which is a pity because the story isn't bad. The voice looping is also deficient; sure it's normal for Italian films to redub, but not this poorly. The timing, intonation, use of a woman for the boy's voice...it's continuously distracting.

Meat, bones, blood. Gotta love how brutally precise it is, from the pastoral external shots to the enigmatic close-ups, not to mention the extreme gore material. Just a story about a family slowly being eaten by an entity from hell. Just that. A domestic apocalypse that unfolds beautifully through bodies and heads falling down the stairs, bodies violently being punished for just being alive.

About on par with The Beyond & still a step down from City of the Living Dead, this closes out the Gates of Hell trilogy with more of a sigh than a bang. Catriona MacColl returns yet again in another different lead role, & does a good job at making the character feel different from her previous two. As for the plot, it's sadly very lackluster, with telegraphed twists & dull characters. Seeming to actively get less interesting as it goes, it's only worth seeing for diehard genre fans.

Fulci knows how to direct horror and some of the individual horror sequences are superbly tense. But the writing is so horrible with so much inconsistencies and stupidities, even Fulci directing can't make up for that completely.

Fulci's cinema is one of basements and cobwebs and sharp knives used when they shouldn't be.

By far the weakest of the trilogy. It's not bad, but it's a tad slow, and this kind of story has been done to death since. Whoever dubbed the kid should be permanenty blacklisted from the industry.

Fulci's style is unique insofar as it seems to be primarily defined by a comedy of 'errors' frequently repeated. No doubt he was a trash peddler, but he was the well dressed hobo that robbed bins in affluent neighbourhoods. In short, he made stylish junk, and House By The Cemetary is a 'bad film' in the conventional sense, unmistakably--awful dialogue, crap acting, questionable plotting and editing and general incoherence--but it's beautifully framed and atmospherically gripping.

it's tough to put the allure of fulci movies into words, because they're obviously crappy and inconherent most of the time. still there's this weird feeling that it's totally legit to watch them and enjoy yourself doing so.

Fulci closes his trilogy of unrelated movies with the worst of the bunch, the supernatural aspect here is negligible, and that was a real winning idea for him in the past (at least in theory). The plot here actually makes sense relative to the previous two, but the gore took a step down to an uninspired necessity, which is a sad fact considering the only things that kept the past two above the bottom of the bottom is (arguable) decent gore. You dropped the ball, Fulci, not that you ever had it.

Some visceral gore effects highlight an otherwise typical "psycho killer in the house" slasher feature.
