Hotel Imperial (1927) is a silent classic. Hotel Imperial (1939) is no classic in any regard. They had to experiment with a unproven foreign talent in Hollywood, Isa Miranda. She was still the most interesting aspect of this talkie adaptation. While you have respectable actors helping, there was something lacking to get any thrills into this World War 1 drama. Just doesn't come together like it did with the more raunchy silent film that starred Pola Negri.
