HTTM is yet another example of a great idea that falters under subpar execution. Sometimes really funny, sometimes really poignant, it never quite reaches the heights it should because of a too-fast editing style and weird directorial flourishes. If it just slowed down and enjoyed the ride, it could be partying like it's 1986.

Likably tossed-off comedy that relies a bit too heavily on ironic kitsch for laughs before becoming, like so many other recent comedies, a delivery system of middle-aged male wish fulfillment. No longer will this once-virile, now-emasculated man have to compromise and take his wife's name: Take that, women!

Hob Tub Time Machine never feels really original. Mature gross out comedies are a dime a dozen nowadays and this is basically Back to the Future with a Hot Tub instead of a DeLorean. While some of the jokes are humourous the film is never truly memorable and I'm sure will simply be referred to as "that movie with the time traveling hot tub". Although I'm sure some people will refer to it as "that movie with the time traveling hot tub and Crispin Glover", and rightly so because he was superb.

Back to the Future is more or less my all-time favorite movie, and Hot Tub Time Machine is basically Back to the Future with the 50s, the DeLorean, and one protagonist swapped out for the 80s, a hot tub, and four protagonists (with a bonus sprinkling of tits and f-bombs), so it was pretty much inevitable I would like it.

an extremely 2010 movie. jokes about Miley Cyrus and gay people existing, coupled with a reverent nostalgia for the mid-80s. it's hard to laugh at characters pointing out the premise of the movie they're in for the umpteenth time, and it's even harder to laugh at most of the jokes, which are bad. the Crispin Glover arm gag is pretty good, but the movie way oversells it. props for Bizarre Love Triangle on the soundtrack, at least.

More amusing than funny, this is like a modern mashup of half a dozen 80's movies that takes the opportunity to go to a few heavy places films couldn't back then. It's a lot more dramatic than I expected, with a few parts that are actually pretty moving. The tone is noticeably uneven at times, but they did a good job of depicting the time, and as a huge fan of that Crue song, the end credits filled me with love.

It's been called Back to the Future meets The Hangover, and that's a pretty apt description. Four dudes (including a Daily Show alum) wake up buzzed with no idea how they got where they are: 1986. While The Hangover may have been funnier, HTTM is more intelligent. It's a smart movie, for a dumb comedy anyway, with some surprisingly effective dramatic turns here and there. An exceptionally well-cast film; every principal part is played perfectly. Corrdry, Robinson and Glover are hysterical.

The movie had a couple minor moments, but no one stole the show. Fans of the vulgar humor will enjoy it. If you don't like the first scene you might just want to turn it off because there's a lot more of that. I did enjoy some of the catchy tunes. Point of reference... Add an extra 5-15 pts if you watch this while on something (the amt of points varries depending on the caliber of drug you use. 5pts for alcohol and up to 15 points for LSD (which I don't normally promote)).

Top badass moment? John Cusack briefly brandishing a Fishbone t-shirt. Unfortunately, the band doesn't manage to make it onto the soundtrack. However, by now taking this opportunity to reveal that I've seen Fishbone live, I have hugely increased my street cred on this site. I'm certainly down and hip with the kids today. (And I guess by saying the latter I've just lost it all again.) 2 cats, 1 chainsaw and no decapitations.

4 dudes go back in time, have some laughs, and learn some lessons about life. For this kind of comedy you're better off seeing it in the cinema with a packed audience who have paid good money to laugh and are intent not to see it wasted. On TV I found it fun, with some genuinely funny bits, but I had no real interest in watching them learn about life and themselves, and have no reason to watch it again.

Basically the inbred child of Back to the Future and The Hangover, without the quality of either movie. It's never particularly funny (I think I laughed out loud about once) but it is quite good fun and entertaining for the most part, until it loses steam about half way that is. The premise isn't used to its full potential, the soundtrack could have been better and it just lacked an overall charm that I was expecting from this. Crispin Glover was great. "Are you raping?!"

Went in thinking it would be crap; surprised to find it was curry...albeit crap-flavored curry. There is some amusement to be found, as Cusack is competent enough to make most of the scenes bearable. Unfortunately, it tries too hard be funny, when it really only has one joke--Future Guy: "I'll e-mail you sometime!" 80s Girl: "What's an e-mail?" Cue Duran-Duran song.

The setup is made from the finest nectar, gently extracted from the most beautiful flower in camp heaven, but the writers seem adament never to go near the road less stupid, even when it would be obvious. It's telling that the decade these boorish Maxim magazine "Types" ("characters" is a stretch) travel to is the 80's - Hollywood's go-to dead horse 2 beat 4 cheap laughs/fond nostalgia. This kind of laziness poisons the entire film which, amazingly, has most of the Types not overly bothered by the idea of throwing away the golden opportunity 2 redo their lives knowing what they already know now. Plots this sloppily sewn 2gether need some great jokes 2 work, but there's barely a handful here.

Funnier then I expected, everyone played off of one another really well and there was some great comedic timing. While a bit hit-and-miss, I had a good time with "Hot Tub Time Machine," that for my money has more consistent laughs than last year's 'Hangover.' Rob Corddry is probably the film's greatest asset, as his character dominates all of the most outrageous scenes that take place here. It may not be a perfect comedy, but it does work as a nostalgic experience and has much the same brand of humor as 'The Hangover' and other films like it.

In a few words: poorly executed. I mean, this could have been an ironic satire of the 80s, mixed with the wild concept of defying destiny and 'embracing the chaos.' It threatened to reach these heights, but it was soon dragged down by off-the-mark direction, needlessly placed gags that made it feel rushed and plenty of stereotypical third millenium AD 'humour.'

Despite a couple of slightly inspired touches (squirrel on the field, the bellhop gag) the movie was derivative, highly predictable, and just not as funny as it should have been. The 80s throwback jokes just felt trite (yes, we know old cell phones look silly - we've been making fun of them for 15 years). And I realize there were touches of homage here and there, but that didn't change my feeling of "been there, done that". But Crispin Glover alone almost makes me recommend this. Almost.

Movie titles seem to be getting a lot less creative lately, but I'm completely okay with that if the movie transcends the title. Use the title to sell the concept and the film to build character. 'Hot Tub Time Machine' doesn't do much of either. Instead of going somewhere unexpected with the comedy, it's always the most obvious gag possible. Poo, barf and piss are supporting cast to the F-word. The characters take a backseat to hit and miss jokes. It just feels like it never really gets going.

A time travel movie fueled by alcohol and illegal Russian energy drinks, Hot Tub Time Machine possesses an irreverent self awareness and dismissive attitude towards scifi paradoxes all while bathed in the neon glow of 1986. Each character has their own mission to safegaurd the timeline; be it John Cusack having to break up with his amazingly attractive girlfriend or Rob Corddry having to repeatedly get beaten up. (Viewed in 2015):Silly time travel comedy that seemed to divide fans of this sort of thing. It works because you believe the men are friends, and the script isn't totally devoid of surprises, but there are a few borderline poignant moments that hint at what might have been had the theme of middle aged regret been taken more seriously. The film belongs to Corddry, who was born to play assholes. Glover is also amusing as a one-armed, accident-prone bellhop, and there are some big laughs.

Despite having the always fun time-travel trope, the plot feels pretty lame (it's mostly just dumb party schtick with girls and booze), and a generally comedically flat lead foursome doesn't help the entertainment value. There are a few good jokes (Glover's recurring missing arm gag is great; the completely unexplained "Great White Buffalo" is a delightful bit of nonsense) and the usually annoying Lou's manipulation of the past at the end is fun, but it's a mostly mediocre movie otherwise.
